I've already indicated time and again Holland should be the first head to roll for multiple reasons. McDavid racking up the points for sure played a role with Woodcroft but it was also a historic powerplay and a rookie goalie which played well enough to be a Calder finalist that had a big part in that last season. Their powerplay won them alot of games but anyone expecting that to still roll on at a 35% success rate clip this season set expectations too high.
But seeing what people are posting about the new guy, it seems more and more they fired Jay Woodcroft and replaced him with Jay Woodcroft.
This is a sport. Fans deserve nothing. I like bit*hing about this team too, but they owe us jack.On the surface this decisions has all the markings of a classic Oilers DoD move.
Star players’s ex junior coach…….FML…..
Old Oilers player with zero coaching gets an assistant gig…….
Fans deserve better than what we get with this franchise. The Cleveland Browns ain’t got nothing on us. Dysfunction is what we do best.

Not sure this was the right move, especially after a win, but it’s definitely clear it was decided this was happening after the loss to the Sharks. Also Holland keeping his job is insanity.
The power McDavid wields behind the scenes is far greater than I think anyone anticipated.
Agree with most of this, although Knoblauch seems to be more of a systems guru and more adaptable than Woodcroft. Willing to see where that takes us.
Coffey; it’s really difficult not to assume unearned nepotism, but at this stage we just have to hope it works.
It feels more like the Oilers are so desperate to keep McDavid forever that they’re surrounding him with his people. We don’t know if McDavid requested the hire (Yet).so mcdavid is now the lebron of the nhl? for all the flack crosby got in the early days atleast he wasnt mcdavid level cringe lol.
comin up a little short on the ad money eh?
Maybe read the article? He also talks about protecting the middle of the ice.Sounds like a good guy and all but playing “high risk high reward” is the last thing this team needs…
I also thought this team was going to start hot considering all that talk over the summer so what the f*** do I know
Fans deserve nothing? The GM of the team is making more money in a year than anyone here will likely see in our lives. If he was doing a good job then it’s fine but he’s getting paid to fail simply because he’s buddies with management. Meanwhile actual hard working people in the org get laid off constantly. This is a sport. Fans deserve nothing. I like bit*hing about this team too, but they owe us jack.
We can unfollow them and stop spending money, that is about it. This terrible start was actually good for me. It lowered my expectations. Trying to take it all in as some side entertainment that I do not religiously follow with too much emotion.
Both are good coaches, not exceptional, who rose and fell with the inconsistency of on-ice play and systemic issues in goal prevention work tied to sub-average defense corp and goaltending. An elite power play masked problem areas until it couldn't.No he hasn't. Less of a roster played better under Tippett. The ONLY difference in record is that Woody had benefit of coaching two back halves of seasons. Thats it.
In anycase when Tip came in here he took over a team that missed playoffs consecutive seasons. He turned the team around immensely. That I don't think can be attributed to Woody. The Oilers were actually extremely good coming out of the gate that season. 16-5 at one point. Like this team is prone to do they had a lull at some point in season and Tippett got fired for it despite the team still being 5 games over .500.
In contrast Woody is fired for haviing the worst seasonal record in the history of the club.
Maybe by 2050 we’ll have a full fledged real head coach. If Knob is willing to pull Skinner when shit doesn't work, that's already a win.
Hell Woody calling a timeout was a win in his first year
Start with the little victories before we go for the big onesMaybe by 2050 we’ll have a full fledged real head coach.
so mcdavid is now the lebron of the nhl? for all the flack crosby got in the early days atleast he wasnt mcdavid level cringe lol.
He isn’t entirely wrong…..
Jesus Murphy.listen to this clip by Gazolla
sounds like Coffey has been running the team behind the scenes
Nah it will be Nugent-Hopkins wth goalie coach Dustin Schwartz and d coach Tom GilbertMaybe 50 we’ll have a full fledged real head coach.
Gonna disagree the team was poised to go on a roll. The D schemes were devastating. We don't have the goaltending sufficient to compensate for D leaving net front to chase pucks elsewhere. That was killing us consistently and teams just doing what Vegas exploited. I know that it was alleged there were changes but I was seeing the same D chasing breakdowns. Last night for once was different, a priority was put on D remaining around net front. Which is always what I would recommend with this team. I suspect some input was already given for last night and that possibly we've already seen what is now going to be advocated. Both are good coaches, not exceptional, who rose and fell with the inconsistency of on-ice play and systemic issues in goal prevention work tied to sub-average defense corp and goaltending. Woodcroft hit the ground running tied to a talented offensive team that had been in a sustained down cycle poised to break out of it. He also leveraged the benefit of return to health starting goalie Smith. This team's positive regression to its means rocketed the stretch drive and playoff success. The coaching change helped spark the pilot light but on-ice performance has always dictated this team's success (or failure). I think a bit of organizational thinking started to shift when Woody was out coached in the Vegas series with no in-game adjustments were part of the symptoms of several close differences between the teams.
Noblauch hits the same sustained shitty trench play that Woodcroft walked into. If the advance stats wizardry is to believed this team is poised to start winning again (of course subject to getting stable goaltending). McLellan, Tippett, Woodcroft - all good coaches undone by a roster that resets after their adrenaline and voices wear out and the poor roster holes and own mistakes begin repeating.
PS, won't be surprised if Coffey is a short-term, interim assistant coach until New Guy #10 can ultimately get his own staff in place.
Wash. Rinse. Repeat.
If he waits until he’s in his sixties to get his first professional coaching job I’ll say it’s a bad hire. If he gets into coaching reasonably soon after his playing days and puts the same work into it as he did when he was a player then he gets the opportunity to see how it works out.So if Crosby retires and gets hired as an assistant coach will you say he’s not qualified?
The goats always takes flack. It’s okay.so mcdavid is now the lebron of the nhl? for all the flack crosby got in the early days atleast he wasnt mcdavid level cringe lol.
Is Dustin Schwartz the real GM?Why was Dustin Schwartz not fired? Because Kris Knoblauch and him played together on the UofA Golden Bear in 2001 LOL
You might be on to something the Only 2 forwards efforts last 4 games that were poor were McDavid and DraisaitlView attachment 767329
