Gonna disagree the team was poised to go on a roll. The D schemes were devastating. We don't have the goaltending sufficient to compensate for D leaving net front to chase pucks elsewhere. That was killing us consistently and teams just doing what Vegas exploited. I know that it was alleged there were changes but I was seeing the same D chasing breakdowns. Last night for once was different, a priority was put on D remaining around net front. Which is always what I would recommend with this team. I suspect some input was already given for last night and that possibly we've already seen what is now going to be advocated.

I don't see last night being a Woody scheme. From reports Coffey had already started to have input.
Unclear which era you're talking about ... Tippett? Woodcroft? Knoblauch's situation?

Last night the Oil got stable goaltending. The d-corp notably Nurse Ceci was great (only 1 breakdown on PK where Ceci got out of position net front defending).

Vegas exploited coverage gaps, bad decisions, and a coach that didn't move off of a massive outscoring mismatch.

Guys this isn't a McD hire. You guys are going crazy seriously. This is a JEFF JACKSON HIRE. He hired Knoblauch not McDavid. Are all of us going to just run McD out of town and hate him for a f***ing coaching hire? He didn't ask for the f***ing tim hortons cup Coffey
Sorry but you're really naive if you think McDavid didn't have huge input in this decision and the Jeff Jackson hire as well. I'm sure it's just a coincidence that Jackson was McDavid's agent and Knoblauch was McDavid's coach.

I'm just joking about it cause it's funny, are people really trying to run McDavid out of town for it?

Imagine he goes rogue and says "This wasn't my idea. I had a trade all but submitted to the league for approval and it got pulled off the table by someone also at this table."
That doesn't sound like Holland. It would go more like this:

"This wasn't my idea. In Detroit I had a lot of ideas. I was there for over 20 years, I won multiple Stanley Cups, and you need ideas. Not all of them were good ideas, but they were ideas, and it's hard to have ideas in this league. I had a trade all but submitted to the league for approval and it got pulled off the table by someone also at this table. In Detroit, no one ever pulled things off the table, and we did a lot of winning. Sometimes we didn't even sit at a table, Jimmy Develano preferred bar stools...."

I’m cool with it. He should have input. He IS this franchise. Let’s just get that clear. No McDavid and shut this shit show down.

I'm not cool with it. You want qualified people making executive decisions not players.
I'm not naive to the fact that elite players have some input of course but these moves reek of McDavid running the organization. This is why you get the Country Club atmosphere and a complete lack of accountability.

Anyway, enjoy the presser Tier 1 fans. This lowly non-Oilers+ subscriber will have to watch it later on youtube. In the meantime, it's Detroit Lions time for me.

The only thing missing was him saying you can't squeeze other GMs for ideas.

McDavid isn’t an idiot is he? I get that keeping McDavid is priority #1 but these gimmicks like hiring his former coach and agent and former line mates can’t fool him forever. McDavid knows what a good hockey player looks like and what a good hockey team looks like. And for years the oilers have loaded his team with crap either through draft or free agency. Real results is what will keep McDavid ultimately, all these gimmicks are just desperation.

We don’t know how far the McDavid influence reaches. But I want him to have some input. Not full control but some input. But who knows how the Oilers operate internally, we just got a bomb of a rumor that Coffey has been running shit much more than any of us anticipated.

It's no coincidence all coaches who have come in preach attention to details in the D-zone, tighten up the D, etc.

Then it looks okay to good for awhile then for some weird reason after 2 seasons, the players quit wanting to play D and cheat for offense instead.

Knob coached the Ice the year they won the WHL. I remember going to game against the Blades who were favorites they had Schenn and were hosting, They ended up getting swept by the Ice. Also what has Happened to Mcdavid and Drai did aliens from moron mountain steal there talent.

Yeah, and usually it doesn’t take them 20 years post retirement.

you’re right. He has been on the fringes of the organization. He’s some bloodsucking leech.

This org is a f***ing tire fire and always had been.

The OBC will never let go of this team. They’ve already sucked it dry. Now they’re trying to crack open the bones to see if there is any marrow left.
Why does Coffey even need to "leech"? He is rich. He owns Car dealership franchises. He lives in Ontario. If he did not care at all, what does coming back here do for him?

Team has gaping holes on D and questionable G, Connor wanted Connor Brown signed.
