In guessing the oilers looked at their cap saw that they could only fit in a RW at 800k or whatever, identified Browns unique situation and THEN asked McDavid to step in and help the recruitment process. McDavid had input and involvement but he didn’t do all the cap crunching to land on Brown or the initial search.

The tough move would have been to fire holland. He screwed up and let the whole org down this off season. Now he fires Woodcroft when he should have fallen on the sword and retired.

I like Woodcroft so this kinda sucks. I hope the replacement is an improvement. I don’t think we make the playoffs without a goalie and I doubt mcdrai are slumping because of Jay.

Anyway, best of luck to Woodcroft and his staff. Hopefully Holland doesn’t f*** this up

I disagree with this Holland line of thinking. The same tools are there that got defeated by the Stanley cup Champs. They just needed to play smarter and that was up to the players and coaching staff.

My guess. Based on what Gazzola said this morning on these made up positions for Coffee have just been a cover up for him to be a snitch and is actually running the team- he is on the bench to get a sense of the players. By Christmas he will leave the bench and become the GM. Not sure what this does for team morale having “an advisor” to the owner move to the bench.

Defense and goaltending were exactly the same. That’s what kept us from a championship, maybe 2.

Nobody cares if you lose to the champs, the goal is to be the champs. You have to improve every off season even if you yourself are the champions too. Holland didn’t improve a thing, he failed.

Woodcroft isn’t blameless here but he damned sure didn’t teach his forwards to play like a bunch of lazy p***yes, he didn’t give lobotomies to his braindead D corp, and he didn’t give his goalies an epic case of the “yips.” So the players get a free pass again. McDavid gets his childhood coach and Katz gets a HOF buddy on the bench because, well, just because. I thought the Jackson hire would truly end the old boys club. But here we are. f*** this team.

Unfortunately in this league, the players usually do get the pass. You can't fire over half of a team in one full swoop. Woody seems like a good guy. He will get another shot somewhere. I don't think it is quick though.
