Ugh, I appear to be in the minority, but IMO Hamonic seems to make more mistakes than anyone not named Chabot these days.

He's a disaster in his own zone, but he does have a bit of offensive pop. If Brannstrom could actually put up some points it would make Hamonic less important.
He's taking on a lot, his numbers would have to be reduced. He's a warrior though and those are the kind of guys you want - especially in the first year of getting into the playoffs.

We don't have that long, Chyc is only signed for 2 more years after this one. Sign another steady D this summer or trade for one at the draft.
2 more years, but I think this is the beginning of a long friendship.

If you acquire another D-man, make sure you get value on Brannstrom - or I guess in this case, let Hamonic walk.

Nah. We can keep Hamonic, I'm sure and Brannstrom is more than adequate for the 5 role. Then we have Klevin coming in another year ish.

I'd keep things status quo and look at the third line next year. Although, I think having Norris healthy and Pinto down to 3C with Greig and Joseph makes it a lot better.

Chabot-Zub
Sanderson-Mayfield/Gudas
Chychrun-Hamonic

Need a legit option in that Sanderson pairing and we have a sick D. We are not aiming for adequate. We are aiming for FYOUS. I also firmly believe we can get someone more reliable than Hamonic for that number 6 role for 1.5 mil. But we can do worse than him there.

DJ has made sure this doesn't happen.

The Bobby Ryan and Matt Duchene disappointments are still fresh in my mind. Sens have the luck of the Irish with a lot of these kinds of big trades.

I'm hoping for a better outcome this time....but still worried.
I don't think anyone won the Bobby Ryan trade ngl. The contract was bad but the trade itself was fine even with the high pick.

Yeah Chabot is #3 on this team at this point and that’s not a hot take

His injury history is pretty insane. Guy needs those muscles.

Chychrun's long injury history includes surgery on both knees, shoulder surgery, ankle surgery and a pair of wrist surgeries now as well. Chychrun has also suffered a concussion during his career

How did we get a truly elite player with term at the trade deadline. Talk about a guy the Oilers or Leafs should have been killing themselves to acquire.
Sometimes having ties to Ottawa does help. By chance does anyone know where he resides ? so we send him a thank you card and 100 of those donuts he seems to like.

I love his skating. He's so aggressive when moving around out there and isn't just wildly charging around like a bull in a china shop. He's tenacious on the puck and with it. Absolute baller
someone I know that has works with him on his skating , always described it as some of the best they have seen and worked with

Cause Armstrong is stupid. He sat the player for like what 2 weeks while asking the moon for him. It got to the point where the majority of the teams that were after him started looking elsewhere. Oilers got Ekholm, Kings got Garikov or however you spell his name.

Fine by me though. Glad the Sens were able to get him at a reasonable price.

Really, everyone lost but Ottawa. Ekholm over Chryrun? No. Garikov over Chychrun? No.

I've thought that perhaps Armstrong had a verbal agreement with Dorion and was man enough to honour it, but who knows.

He was holding out for the right deal and then the market changed. I think he pulled the trigger taking less than expected so he could at least do something right for Chychrun, poor guy has been on the market forever.

A huge part was that their ownership refused to allow any contracts back in the deal. This caused problems for most teams.

Our first is also slated to be potentially higher than those of the competitors, so better quality bs quantity as well.

Dumb move on their part, but at the same time they are playing in a kids arena for the next few years at least and have to be bleeding dollars right now.

Did they get a better offer for Chychrun now than they could have before? They waited till close to the last minute at the trade deadline when conventional wisdom suggests you will get the most desperate offers.

There were actually so many trades days before the actual deadline it doesnt seem to fit with the usual lawyer practice of waiting till the last minute to ensure you are maxing out the deal. Few were willing to go to the last minute any more. Not sure if that says anything or not.
