It shows that the quality of the team you face matters, Chychrun has only played 10 games for us and during one of the toughest schedules I can think of.
Part of these games was Columbus-Chicago-Seattle-Vancouver-Calgary. Didn’t look good except for against Columbus. Seattle is decent. But 4 of 10 games were against objectively not very good hockey teams.

Our team is talented enough IMO that we don’t need to expect to look bad against good teams.

You cant change the d pairings every night and expect guys to be comfortable or play at their best.

The coaching staff deserves a lot of blame for how this has been handled imo, these guys just can't figure out their lineup to save their jobs.

GM went out and traded for the best dman on the market, and this coaching staff would take 3 months to figure out pairings at 5 on 5 and special teams.

I love the makeup of our defense, a new coach cant come soon enough

5 were against team locked in playoff spots, Cgy and the Pens are battling for a wild card spot and Vancouver has turned things around playing at a 100 pts pace since Tochett and are 10-3-1 in their last 14. None of those teams are currently objectively bad.

Clb, Chi, sure.

We didn't look bad against the NYR, Colorado, Toronto, all objectively top teams in the league.

And what was our record ? We also had a good record in the “last ten” or whatever period of time. Why is it so cool to look bad against a team like Calgary or Vancouver? We were hot as well. And in a stronger conference. It’s not that we lost. We got obliterated. Our expectations don’t matter. But at some point collectively we need to be like okay we should win this game or at least no get destroyed. Our best players. Should not look terrible tonight. And so on.

We acquired chychrun so that we would have a great blue line. Not so that we can be like “oh well that team has looked good lately what did you expect!”

I said objectively not very good I believe. Calgary Vancouver and Chicago are not very good hockey teams.

I think next yr they go with ...

Chabot - Zub
Sanderson - Chychrun
Brannstrom - Hamonic/JBD

... unless PD goes out & gets another vet D to take that 3rd pairing LD spot over the summer. He may also need to find an NHL goalie who can stay healthy.

So you don't want to give the coaching staff any credit for his development? Sanderson is just magically playing well?
Of course not man, it’s like this is your first day. Haters are gonna hate, and nothing gets in the way.

A very dedicated bunch ;)

I would expect

Chabot Chychrun
Sanderson Zub
Kleven Hamonic (or UFA)

I don't think Brann or JBD have a future here

Something like that or slightly adjusted:

Chabot - Zub
Sanderson-Hamonic/JBD
Chychrun - Brannstrom

Give each pair equal ES TOI.

Wonder if this means we see Kleven in the lineup earlier than expected.
I don't think so, unless someone else gets hurt. Kleven won't save the season, so they're going to stick the plan I suspect, if he gets in its because they think he's ready, not because Chychrun is out

Do we have someone that can save the season in the lineup or outside the lineup. Its like being overboard in the middle of the ocean in a storm .. there is a chance you get saved but ...
