Truthfully its hard for me to remember a big acquisition that started underwhelming, and then turned into what we were hoping for. He has been fantastic this season on both ends of the ice.

Oh yea whatever happened to that Heinola guy?
FWIW: The Rangers target at 20 was Nils Höglander.
He's defending well. 90% of the time he's making the right decisions and smart passes. It tends to be Miller's aggressiveness and occasional mistakes that drag him into trouble. My take on Trouba is the same as always, and is illustrated by how we as a team is so much better than last year, despite the roster itself being much worse (didn’t the Athletic crew have us as the team that had the worst off season?).
The average way a NHL game is played just don’t represent how one NHL game is played. This is Gallant’s biggest strength, he understands what works and what does not work — but he also understand that you can afford quite much artistic freedom, if it is supported properly.
Size on the blueline matters. Getting some timely hits here and there matters. Having a team that stands up for it self, you guessed it, matters. We discuss metrics vs the eye test and have come a long way. But this is another dimension.
The best way to defend is to attack, yet, in games close on the score board — it’s very rare that we see the team up a goal spend the final 90 seconds in the attacking zone. It’s a fact. Those 90 seconds isn’t about getting the puck up ice, 9 out of 10 games, it’s about defending and being destructive. Just one example, there are many mini games within the game. They matter too.
Trouba isn’t a great defender right now. But all in all, he is very hard to replace. Hence he is worth a higher pay. Perhaps Schneider can give us what Trouba does, that doesn’t make Trouba worth less, if just means that Schneider was a heck of a pick. With that said, he still isn’t there.
That would have been nice too, but I’m glad we have Trouba. Only problem is the cap.FWIW: The Rangers target at 20 was Nils Höglander.
Seriously. He’s become one of my most hated to one of my favorites now. So happy to have him. What a beast. He has really committed to being a badass. I have nothing to say about that other than he's living up to his contract this season. Just as dumbfounded I was about Kreider being a beast, my other complaint - Trouba - is apparently also a beast. What the hell is going on?!
Two Goardie Howe hattricks in two nights and I have absolutely nothing left to complain about. I think Trouba is loving hockey right now.
Same here. And it’s not the scoring. It’s the being a stone cold badass. So sorely needed on this team and he’s doing it without being dirty.Seriously. He’s become one of my most hated to one of my favorites now. So happy to have him.
On the money with this post OlaMy take on Trouba is the same as always, and is illustrated by how we as a team is so much better than last year, despite the roster itself being much worse (didn’t the Athletic crew have us as the team that had the worst off season?).

Some of the arguments against it are weird.Should have heard the Avs announcers arguing over the hit. PBP guy was like not cool at all, 2 nights in a row....I dunno man, color guy responded well if you played the game you'd know it's a fast game and if you keep your head down you're going to get steam rolled, hit was clean, shoulder down etc.. PBP guy said I hear that....but still....2 nights in a row, vulnerable player....color guy said I know we're high on emotions, our star player got nailed no one wants to see that, but it's still a good hockey play and clean hit, PBP continued to argue for a bit then said I guess we'll have to agree to disagree, color guy continued to push his point and eventually PBP guy in jest challenged color guy to a fight and said he'll come downstairs right now, all had a good awkward laugh, and the PBP got the last word in saying 'but it wouldn't end well for you....' lol you could tell he was pissed. Was great to hear both sides of it, the raw emotional homer versus the former player giving cold perspective on what it is to play the sport. Have to say I really liked the color guys commentary all game.

"Yeah, they are clean hits, but two days in a row?!"

His first season here I kind of expected nothing much from him so I cut him a lot of slack his first year. He was adjusting to playing in NYC coming from Winnipeg, culture shock. He's adjusted nicely.Truthfully its hard for me to remember a big acquisition that started underwhelming, and then turned into what we were hoping for. He has been fantastic this season on both ends of the ice.
John Tortorella’s take on Jacob Trouba.
