The thing is he has stepped up and made big hits several times this year in addition to the last two.

He's played his position very well and teams are going to start thinking twice playing the puck on his side when hes on the ice.

Loving his game.

I feel like he was just as physical last year? Obviously the opportunities to land hits like that one don't present themselves all that often.
He was, though I think there's like a "nastiness" element that maybe wasn't so present last year. He seems to be far more willing to muck it up and engage in the extracurricular stuff than in the past few years. Obviously he won't fight every game, but he's on pace to shatter his career PIM high for a single season and would be even without those last two fights. It, to me, just feels like there's more of an edge to him this season. It's as if he wants to be an actual intimidating presence and not just a physical presence.

Jacob Trouba has morphed into Dion Phaneuf and its amazing to see it happen.

Last couple of seasons all the talk was how can the Rangers get rid of this 8 million dollar contract. He's underperforming. He not as advertised. He's not physical. He cant provide offense. etc.

What a turnaround. Was it Gallant? Was it the emergence of Fox that gave him flexibility? Was it Reaves that gave him some more confidence to clobber people and not worry so much about repercussions? Did Trouba finally have that A-Ha moment? Whatever it is, he has been the most improved player on this years roster and the player he developed into is like the one position that Rangers fans have been craving for decades. A true physical defenseman.

A true candidate for the Captaincy.
For sure !!!!! He should have it pinned on his chest yesterday . He knows now that we have guys that have his back now ....pack mentality . You simply have to have it in this sport to succeed ....especially in the second season first round battles.

I don't know where this level of nastiness came from.... but I love it.

Reavo's passive buff to all players. Love to see it.
It was always there. Was just in hibernation like a grizzly bear.
I think with Reaves/Goodrow/Blais/hunt and rangers being overall tougher as a team this year has make trouba feel more comfortable to throw those kind of hits without being targeted or jumped by other teams enforcers/goons etc.
I’ve been waiting for this since we traded for him. I haven’t seen him this comfortable lining players up and drilling them since him and Morrissey took over 1st pair duties for that year for 60-70 game in the Peg.
Just my opinion.
Besides his overall play, which has been excellent so far, I’d wager Gallant is over the moon with how a trouba has been physically. He loves mobile size and nasty like many of us.
