I mean, he laughed watching Robocop (original 1987 version) the other day.

Trouba (Rangers in general) proving that old school hockey is possible in the game today.

Clean, mean, vicious hits. Always were legal, we just never had the balls to do it (much). imo

I don't know if its old school. Thats the Islanders. Trouba can be beginners and physical and still chip in offensively. Could flirt with a 50 pt season one of these years imo.

Trouba seems to be gaining a following, albeit small, on the main board for this throwback hitting.

The rangers will have no problem trading him when he’s 29-30 with 2-3 years left on his deal.
He’s been excellent this year. Hopefully Schneider can fill his role slowly over the next 2 seasons and Trouba will he traded when his NMC changes over.
Right now. Expecting any of our young D to take his minutes/spot with miller would be a disaster.

Whatever this guy's agent is getting paid isn't close to being enough. What a robbery that contract was

This guy should be public enemy #2 right behind Ryan Strome. Imagine still having McDonagh over this dude? Would be sitting in the cup finals right now.

what happened to his offensive game? Coaches love dmen like him but he better be Larry freaking Robinson if he can't contribute nothing offensively.

I’m looking at your posting analytics and I think we might have to buy your ass out if you keep relying on advanced statistics when trying to evaluate a player.

Trouba does not suck defensively.
He doesn't suck, but he isn't good either. He's probably average but gets looked at as being a strong defender because of his big hits.
There are countless times I watch the game with my sons and we either laugh or scratch our heads at his defensive play. It can be hard to watch.
That said, he is a useful player, but one who is grossly overpaid.

I agree with a decent portion of this... but if we didn't have Trouba, we'd be missing a very unique specimen, and we'd basically be open to another 8 million dollar mistake. 🥁

This requires a bit more of a detailed look.

Honestly, Trouba gets a lot of schtick around here but he played his heart out, scored 50 points in a season, and was then traded to the New York Rangers at the beginning of a "rebuild/retool" and signed on the dotted line. Would anyone have predicted that we would luck bomb into our D-core the way we did? Can you blame him for taking the contract?

He just hit career highs in Goals (11), Hits (207), Blocks (177), and PIM's (88) as his takeaways diminished a bit. If I described a 28 year old, 6'4, 210 pound, 40 point, hardnose defenseman, who can play 1st/2nd pairing, has put up 50 points (with PP time), without providing a name... I think most would say that, yes he's overpaid but at 8 million, he's hardly "The Problem".

In his first 3 seasons with the Rangers, he's fought 8 times. In 6 seasons he played with the Jets he fought 5 times. His role is different, the team is different, and honestly, the only "issue" I have with him is that he's a luxury of a player to be paying 8 million while putting him on the 2nd pairing (while we play Lindgren with Fox). While that's partially done for chemistry, everyone here knows on the down-low that it gives us a 1A/1B defensive lineup.

If he keeps his elbows down and plays a smart game, I know that he can be the difference maker in a series and do a great job in the regular season. He's weathered the storm that was K'Miller's early seasons and swung series for us with big hits.

He's being played in a limited fashion and he's a bit overpaid, but if we get a cup in the next few seasons, he's a pretty big chapter in the story. 🤷‍♂️
