I’m still hoping for a Quebec-Lindros trade where they traded him to the Rangers and the Flyers and the league had to figure it out.

But one up them, trade Eichel to Vegas, Anaheim and Calgary and let Bettman try to figure out the mess.:D

True, but to be fair, I told Sabres fans that insiders I trust had said Jack's father stood up at a meeting and said his son would never play another game for the Sabres. I was almost unanimously disbelieved and some said "Jack has never asked for a trade".

People dig into positions even when all evidence says that they are wrong. It happens everywhere all the time.

Wait what? .. the only evidence stated in your post comes from an online dude who got it second hand? You're faulting people for not taking that as gospel?

The Sabres will get quantity but they need at least one guaranteed (or highly-projected) STUD piece in the deal. I still think this player is Newhook. Unless Eklund is on the table, Newhook is the best young piece the Sabres could likely get -- I like him better than Krebs and/or Tuch. The dark horse option is a surprise team like Philly who offers a salary back JVR, plus two stud prospects in York and Frost.

TO PHI:
- Eichel (% retained enough to make dollars work)

TO BUF:
- JVR
- Frost
- York
- 1st rounder

Eichel for McDavid straight up is about as realistic a suggestion as the Sabres retaining salary for 5 years. It's just not gonna happen.

it is likely the insurance contract is not entirely clear. It depends on the contract language and a generally implied duty to mitigate. One thing to consider . . . if the team is the insured (which I believe is the case), then Buffalo may believe that they cannot agree to ADR for that reason (i.e., doing so would violate the team's duty to mitigate).

But in one sense it doesn't matter. Eichel doesn't need to base his decision based on the outcome of the insurance contract/issues. Whether he gets paid or not has nothing to do with the insurance contract and everything to do with the CBA and his own contract.

York is OK. Who is calling Frost a stud prospect? No way this gets it done.

Sabres are loaded with top end D coming into the system. Eichel can not be moved without addressing Center.
Being loaded with top end defensemen is a great problem to have. Future moves can be made as well. If you get Shea Theodore, probably the best contract in the league and maybe a top 5 dman in his prime, I think you take that and run with it.

Could Boston build a convincing package for Buffalo:

DeBrusk, Carlo, Lysell, 1st Round Pick for Eichel.

Middle six winger that needs a change of scenery
Top 4 right D signed for 6 years. Much needed for Buffalo. Could be a perfect partner for Dahlin or Power
Top prospect
1st Round Pick
Boston should stay away from a package like that for a player that can not play at this time . they also going to need to pay Pasta with his next contract and they cannot and should not be moving Carlo when they could use a defenseman now. Sorry but I suggest the Bruins stay away from Eichel unless Buffalo really wants to move and the cost does not hurt the Bruins present and future teams.........

If Buffalo's long-term top 3 defensemen are Dahlin, Theodore and Power.............that's absolutely a fantastic core. Build in guys like Jokiharju, Bryson, Samuelsson and Johnson around them.

It's already been long established that defensemen tend to have high trade value, so trade what we might have excess of.

We just need talent. Period.

EF speculates that Vegas and Buffalo are locked in and trying to get a deal done soon to avoid Eichel filing a grievance.

Feels like a huge gamble of Theodore is included in the deal. They’ll be without Stone, Pacrioretty and Theodore for a long time.

BTW would it not be the most Vegas thing over if they included Whitecloud in the deal days after his extension?

If Buffalo gets offered Theodore, that is such a win. Take it and run. Never would have thought they could come away with a top NHL dman in a trade for JE.

I still think this is just another in a along line of fictional, half rumors. It would be a great trade for both teams if Eichel ends up back to form. Vegas has most of the risk though.
