Obviously, I don't have the full context, but this seems like a scary situation. I'm sure there's always some tensions between a player and management. But Jack is 100% right to look out for his own health over the financial priorities of the team, if that's what he wants to do. Good for him. Sabres are doing themselves no favors: what UFA would sign there if they could be forced to play through an injury that they don't want to? While the Sharks are also a tire fire, I get the sense that DW is a "players GM" in the sense that he pays for past productivity, lets people take time off, etc.

Feel terrible for Sabres fans, who absolutely do not deserve this sort of thing. The only Sharks away game I've ever been to was in Buffalo: absolutely loved the atmosphere and playful/well-intention-ed ribbing I got for wearing a Sharks jersey at KeyBank.

Thats true as well, but even with full NMC there should be multiple potential suitors due to contract length.
Yah, but if Eichel goes and says "I'll only accept a trade to the Rangers", the Sabres lose all the leverage they have in a potential deal.

Then he sits at home and massages his neck for 5 years.
Nah, He'll sit on the bench, and get his paycheck.

Sabres are screwed, no matter how you look at it, they'll either lose, or lose big time... Might as well cut your loss

Yeah well Eichel has no say where he lands, it's not his choice to make. Kevyn Adams will trade him to the highest bidder and that could definitely be a team that he has no desire to play for. it's not his choice so he needs to suck it up.

The team is hesitant to trust replacing a disk in his neck because there isn’t a lot of data on how successful it is.

The team hasn’t done anything wrong with his injury unless I’m missing something.

I thought he has a NMC?
Think there's some time until it kicks in. Methinks it's best to move him before that happens.

If traded before that time, Bruins likely interested, but don't have the pieces. I'd imagine any team needing a young #1 C is interested. Spitballing: Bruins, Columbus, Nashville, Calgary or any team really.

IMO Rangers are the favorite here, unless he reaches his NMC, in which, means more trouble for Buffalo. I think a team like LA may also have the assets to get it done. The Sabres aren't gonna get full price, but should take the best offer they can get, which probably means shipping him out sooner than later.

Totally agreed,

But his NMC kicks in in 2022-2023, ehce why I said his value will only plummet the close he gets to that date

Why would his value plummet? If he really wants to be traded how choosy do you think he's gonna be? Or is this all predicated on the idea that a Boston boy like Eichel is going to only play for NYR?

Doesn't he have some control over his destination right now? If he somehow is able to leak where he wants to go now would teams trade for him knowing they didn't make his list of preferred destinations?

I'm saying that he has a NMC, he CHOSES where he'd be heading after the 2021-2022 season. So Yeah, if he goes on record and says i'll only accept a trade to this place or that place, that screws his value even more...

He'll still get paid, and the Sabres will end up with nothing to show for Eichel.

I don't think anyone is going to make a trade before his health issues are resolved. Eichel has no leverage to force a trade now.

To the Flames fans pushing Monahan as a centerpiece of an Eichel deal - you may want to look at Monahan's limited NTC. He's got a 10 team NTC. Zero chance Buffalo is an accepted destination.

The deal would have to involve Tkachuk++

I don't see how this doesn't turn into a bidding war. I don't see how "asking out" lowers his value. The unresolved injuries to his neck and abdominals are a concern, but how big of one?

If healthy, he's a 40+goal 95+ point center signed for 5 more years to a large, but fair cap hit, and he's just turning 25. No player of that caliber, position, age and contract situation has been on the trade block in a longggggg time, (maybe ever?). He would be an upgrade at 1C for all but a handful of teams and he would be the best "2C" in the league since Malkin.

I think every team in the league is interested in becoming Pittsburgh 2.0 and will be willing to gamble.

The price is going to be higher than HF boards thinks right now. Or the Pegulas gonna BuffaLOL and it's ROR 2.0

How many calls did Adams get today?

Although neck disc replacement is a relatively new technique the recovery period is only 2-3 months. I don't believe this alters his long term value as much as some think.

The aggressive GM's with assets like Guerin, Drury and Yzerman are definitely calling. The chance to get a 25 year old franchise centre never happens anymore.

Before y’all get vicious, forgive me for having ever done a trade proposal before lol. Just tell me what adjustments you’d make or if there is one.

Caps tryna skip a full fledged rebuild when Ovi-Backstrom age out

caps have tons of veteran depth at every position but G. Let’s assume they make a side deal with Seattle to not take a goalie or want Oshie (maybe). Caps need to clear space for Eichel (I haven’t bothered doing math so that could be an issue... but that caps depth is paid so moving some..)

after expansion draft:::

Caps: Kuznetsov + Oshie (youngish solid C and veteran, popular, still good wing Oshie to have around the youth) or one of our cheaper-than-Oshie Defenseman (if the math can’t work with Osh, we’ve got a solid d core)

+ Vanacek or Samsonov

+ possibly any depth forward and or a prospect other than McMichael. Protas or Alexeyev only if the math can’t work with Caps quality vets (to correctly place around Sabres young men). The Caps don’t mind tossing around future 1st round picks like candy either.

Sabres: Eichel + any toss in to make money work
