If anything Marchand should have been called for interference. Edwards should be gratfull to the refs for letting that go.

Marchand did it knowing the refs were calling absolutely nothing all night. There were plays like this from both sides all night long

i think they do. edwards just spends most of the time going off topic and saying a bunch of random **** and then gets excited when bruins do something good. the knock i have with pittsburgh's and florida's are the voices. they are so annoying.

At the very least, Edwards gets excited at good plays from both teams. One of the only announcers in the league where you cant tell who scored just by tone of voice.

Nope. It was a physical game but that was just a dirty play that led to a kid getting injured. Whenever you take a players feet out from under him it's a dangerous play.

I find this type of rant funny albeit ridiculous. I also doubt Jack had an issue that the refs call the play dead when "conscious" McQuaid took a shot to the neck.

i dont watch a lotta preds games but when toronto was playing them in nashville they were praising matthews and the leafs so i was like 'these guys are good'

As a leafs fan i would take Edwards caling the game 100 times out of 100 over the sportsnet guys homerism and all, hes knowledgeable, entertaining and in this case hilarious. As a pens fan I'll admit that. Bob Errey is one of the most biased people in hockey. The difference is that he at least tries to hide it from time to time, and he's not actually abrasive.

What the hell on God's green Earth makes you think Jack Edwards is a journalist? He's a PBP guy, hired by NESN, which is owned in part by the Bruins. He's about as much a journalist as the Sham Wow guy.

First of all, NESN is NOT owned by the Bruins. NESN is owned by both Fenway Sports Group and Delaware North. Delaware North owns the Bruins, as well at TD Garden. So they're actually both owned by the same people. So there's that.

Also, commentary (or play-by-play) falls under the category of "sports journalism". So there's that as well.

goes to show you haven't watched a full Jack broadcast.

His asides are only during stoppages in play, and when the action is happening, he calls the game.

additionally, he gets as excited for great plays/goals by the opposing team as he does the Bruins. Its one of the biggest complaints Bruins fans have about him. He also has many players on other teams that he loves to death and spends time praising during the game (Nash was one for instance). The guy simply lives and loves hockey.

I watch a lot of anaheim games and the guys are way more knowledgeable than their last crew but holy f*** they have no enthusiasm for opposition play

This is extremely subjective but sure. Pittsburgh (although I haven't heard them call a game since Mears replaced Steigy), NJD, Colorado (guys are so boring), Florida, NBC as they employ Mike Milbury, just to name a few. I've heard every single crew in the league many, many times as I have had Center Ice on and off since 05-06. I'd easily put Edwards and Brickley in the top half, maybe even top-10. Being homers/biased doesn't mean they are bad at their job. They are local guys. They aren't there to necessarily be objective. They are there for entertainment and ratings.

Some of the best in the league? I think the Islanders and Rangers both have excellent crews. Carolina. I think the San Jose crew isn't half bad. Dave Strader in Dallas was outstanding (RIP).

I respect your opinions because I've noticed you as one of the most levelheaded and non-biased people on these boards since I've joined, but I really thing that the angle he fell at is what slid him into Johnson's path, he may have extended his body to make contact but i don't think the original intent was to take him out.

To answer your first two questions: According to the Society of Professional Journalism one of the most important obligations for journalism in general is "To act independently", and without conflict of interest... Commentating for a team that you have a clear conflict of interest with shatters the whole idea of avoiding COI.

It's kind of a basic of sports journalism that you're not supposed to proclaim yourself a fan of your particular team and that you're meant to remain impartial. When a sports commentator proclaims (or makes it obvious) that they're a fan of one team or another it makes them lose a degree of credibility.

I EXPECT them to be biased as well, because they ARE. But that doesn't mean it's a good thing.

Honestly, I'd prefer every commentator in the league to be from out-of-market with zero connection to their team.
