100%. Kind of goes without sayingDepends on a few what ifs. If a player doesn't want to sign a contract during a period of time (like the offseason) there's not much a GM can do
If Campbell wasn't such an amazing standup guy I'd hope his numbers plummet in the second half of the year with him regaining form in the playoffs.
Vezina candidate and all star. Guys is just pricing himself out of Toronto with every game he plays. I know hindsight is 20/20, but this is another contract Dubas should have locked up a year earlier (Marner is the other).
Lehner finished top 3 and top 6 in Vezina voting in back to back years and got 5 years $25M with much more NHL experience than Campbell. With a strong chance at being a vezina nominee, he’s going to be north of 6 or 7.
Tough to move Mrazek, at 4.2 and 4.4 in salary after this year. They need to get him some games to find his game, or there won’t be any takers.
I think we haven't rushed it, so we will pay for our patience. If we would have rushed it we would have had a good deal.Guys get paid when they earn something not before .. these are freakin kids here .. too much $$$ too quick and too many get da money for nothing and your chicks for free mentality .. Dubie learned da hard way as a rook himself .. Soup makes it through year as starter then gets us a round in playoffs and he gets MAX $5.5M for 3-4 years folks but more likely 5M per .. now if he wins a cup like Binner/Murray did then yes 6-6.5M LT for 7-8 years is fair .. either way we are trading Mzrak and using a younger backup .. so why rush it and make a collosal error??????

Conundrum, maybe we shouldn't offer him anything, he may colapse. The next couple of months won't make much of a difference either way. As you msay he could win the Vezina this year and collapse next year anyway.people do remember that Freddie was an allstar the year of his collapse right?

He may ask 6 or 7 but he likely ends up much closer to what Lehner got.
Everyone likes Jack. He smiles and cries. But it will be a crime if they give this guy a big contract. The best way I can describe him is "loose". He doesn't seem set in most situations. He also gets scrambling and out of position a lot. Just saying, we're lucky to have him right now and we'll be lucky to avoid giving him a stupid contract moving forward.
Thing is they kind of have to pay him.
They absolutely don't.
Yeah they kind of do because if they don't Marazek is the guy.
And the thing with Marazek being the guy is.
No.
I mean, I never heard of Campbell before 2 years ago. There will be options.
The fact you hadn't heard of Jack Campbell doesn't help your credibilty
It's not like Campbell showed up out of nowhere. He was drafted 11th Overall by the Stars a few years back, just took a while to develop into his potential and get an opportunity. Not every player has the same singular track in their development. When we acquired him it reminded me A LOT and had personal similar hype/hopes as when we got Bernier. Because I was a big believer in Bernier at the time having watched him dominate in the Q, but also was another 11th Overall goalie we also got from the Kings!Yeah, I'm sure LA's backup goalie was top of your scouting report.
he was a solid draft, most knew of himYeah, I'm sure LA's backup goalie was top of your scouting report.

Mrazek can be up and down but it’s in their interests to build up some confidence and a healthy track record in the event they need him to carry the mail at some point. Or they want to get rid of him at some point. The Arizona game wasn’t great but it’s still normal NHL level goaltending.
