Vasilevskiy sucked from October to December two years ago or so. Hellebucyk had a terrible year and was fine. Carey Price's career is anything but consistent. Do not worry man, the longer it goes on the more concerned I get. I'm watching tonight and shaking my head, I'm not going to hang onto a player until the end.

Correct me if I’m wrong but none of those examples were as bad as what we are seeing now. And they all had track records of being more stable / consistent for longer periods, so the 1-2 month slump is basically an outlier.

the problem with now is unless it gets better soon it’s going to consume Campbell. His body language is absolutely terrible - he’s defeated.

I don't think Vasilevsky has had any stretch where he was literally the worst starting goalie in the league by a fairly large margin.

That is what Campbell has been for the past 2 months now.

This isn't lack of consistency. The Leafs have been dominant at both ends of the ice today, and for many of these games, but Campbell is keeping these other teams around with goals that no NHL goalie should be letting in.

I am fine with giving him another chance at some point, but right now, Mrazek has not been given anywhere near the amount of leash and he deserves a serious chance as a starter. Campbell has lost his job and he needs to earn it back.

3 months. And I agree, I'm not confident in Mrazek either but he deserves the net simply because Campbell doesn't.

The team dodged a massive bullet not extending this guy.

No, you're very right that Campbell's play is more concerning than either of my examples. The track records are a huge part of that. I'm not trying to be unreasonable here in my defense of him, I'm just trying to stump for the guy because he was genuinely brilliant for us for a lot of games. Good goalies can recover, and I very much hope Campbell was not a flash in the pan.

Yeah I see the issues and I don't think I'm trying to change anyone's mind. I sure as hell don't expect to change any minds when he plays like he has in Detroit tonight, woof. But I am explaining my own patience for him. I promise that patience will wear out eventually, but I do try to be optimistic with all of our guys.

ok, understood. My concern is he doesn’t have the mental fortitude to avoid being affected by yesterdays games. Hope I’m wrong and this is just a blip.

No I have patience with him too. I don't think he is as bad as he has been the last 2-3 months.

But he has been given 2-3 months to get out of this stretch behind a team that has arguably played like the best one in the league. Campbell is by far the main reason why we haven't won even more games than we have, and we have won a ton of games in spite of his performances.

I think he needs to earn his job back. We should be getting Mrazek into more games anyways, and if this is not a reason to do it, then I don't know what is. Mrazek has been significantly better than Campbell, as hard as it is to believe, and at least has a save percentage above .900 in 2021. In fact, if it wasn't for that MTL game where the team arguably played the worst they have all year, he has actually had a league average save percentage.

We need another goalie that can be relied on to play consecutive games. Seems pretty obvious, but I guess they thought Mzraek could be that. If he wasn't such a disaster, we could put Jack on the bench and let him work out his headspace for a while, but Mrazek is barely backup quality.

Freddie Anderson was the problem in years past and now all of a,sudden your guys were full of it as he's the star on hurricanes

Andersen was never the problem - until the playoffs. Goodluck with that one.

We need another goalie

can we loan Andersen for a month and a half then return him when playoffs start?

Getting pulled while the team has the lead is officially rock bottom. After already playing horrible for months.....sorry but he can't be our playoff goalie anymore. Time to get on the phone.

I think we're seeing some of the issues Campbell had with mental toughness that negatively impacted his career. Not sure you can really feel comfortable he won't give you an unacceptable performance in the playoffs or an elimination game. From what I can see he has two modalities. All-star goaltending, and tire fire. Not a lot in between.

not at all true. This is almost the exact same story as the year Freddie played in ASG. came back ans was horrific.

jack has been bad. Needs a week off to just reset

Confience is everything for a goalie and right now you can easyly see campbell dont have any confidence. He played stay too far in his net, he hesitate on every shot so he start too late his move to stop the puck and at the end he always half of a second late on every play. When a puck deflect, he already late so cant react enough fast.

Maybe its time call up a back up and give few days off to campbell, giving him time to see his family and restart to live and not just survive

Not a bad suggestion. If a mental health break and reset is what he needs the team could give Mrazek a little more runway, maybe use Hutton or Woll here and there and see where he's at later.

Had he lived up to expectations, he would have earned at least 30 mil by now playing a game

Now, at 30, he put up Vezina numbers only to choke as soon as people started talking about how much money he was in line to make on his one big pay day

I wasn't overly impressed with him in the Habs series, but gave him the benefit of the doubt

It's for the best that this implosion has happened because it is clear as day now that he is mentally fragile and we will never win a cup with him in net
