Fleury would definitely be an upgrade and who knows maybe he put his meltdown moments behind him

problem is he might get pricey to acquire since i could see a few teams interested in him

Interim Hawks GM Kyle Davidson could really make a name for himself and a career advancement potential by extracting high value from a MA Fleury trade from desperate teams.

Dubas has already shown that tossing away 1st round picks for rentals and fix cap problems he created is not too high a price to pay, so I could see Hawks asking for a 1st round pick to borrow Fleury to help save Leafs season.

Leafs 1st round pick + getting out from the Mrazek signing mistake for MA Fleury. However eating 2 & 1/2 years Mrazek term at $3.8 mil balance might not even be enough to get it done, if there is a bidding war and better offers.

PS. Dubas was already willing to deal a conditional 2nd to dump Ritchie so dealing a conditional 1st for Fleury wouldn't be an unexpected outcome if Leafs goaltending continues to struggle with < 900 sv% and ranked near the bottom on the team save percentage rankings.

Wouldn't give a 1st for Fleury, conditional or not.

to help save Leafs season.

by save the leafs season you're referring to saving the season where they're on track to set a franchise record in points when you predicted them to be a bubble team, correct?

He can still bounce back, but I hope it’s sooner rather than later. His numbers cannot, CANNOT dip below .915 this season at any point. Our defence isn’t allowing enough for that to be reasonable + his extended hot play should also keep him over it. He just needs to return to form and play his game

Make the saves he’s supposed to, make good lateral movements and play pucks a lot more confidently

there's 32 games left so he could easily dip below .915 and our team defense is starting to give up a number of odd man rushes and breakaways again

We’ve seen two extremes of campbells over the last season and half. The inconsistency is a concern. We may not be able to trade for a starter by the deadline. If we have to go into the playoffs with Campbell hopefully it’s the first 2 months version of Campbell and not the last 2.

Good luck to find a starting goalie above 5M

Who are starting goalie available this summer?

38 years old fleury...
Kuemper who will cost 5M+
Campbell

By transaction...
Varlamov at 5M
Quick at 5.8M
Take a guest with Driedger at 3.5M

Resign Campbell will probably be the best option Toronto will have.
Makes sense.

They let Freddie go who was Auston's best friend.
Ouch.

Figure it out soup, don’t over think it. If the puck is coming towards you it needs to either hit your gut, your hand, or your leg. Everything else is noise my friend.

I have to question your post here with a caveat. I don't watch or follow the games enough to know this as an observer. However, they are professional players and I don't find inconsistencies exist much. This is why they are paid that much. He is a vexing trophy candidate and he will be the starter. Maybe, when all of you complained about Freddie Anderson and now he's a vezina trophy candidate for Carolina the nonsense about HIM being the issue was nonsense.

Hundreds of hours (*games) of observation are put into our no.1 goalie discussions and you're going to google stats for 3 seconds and think you have it figured out?

The inconsistency is concerning. With 32 games left he likely bounces back to some degree, but if he has a stretch like this in the playoffs they're done.

It's unfortunate because the Leafs were on pace to have one of their best seasons ever.

true, but you have to be careful of falling into a trap of looking at arbitrary splits.

For example last year he was at .944 over his first 10gms, then at .900 the rest of the season (12gms) for a .921 overall....but then posted a .934 in the playoffs.

Campbell has a .920 this year (37gms), a .920 as a Leaf (65gms), and a .918 career (123gms). Nothing is for sure, and there's always the chance a guy just gets exposed the more games he plays (though tbh i don't think this recent play is him having any particular weakness exposed - he's sort of just off in general, with goals going in any number of ways), but his track record is starting to look fairly consistent at this point.

Playoffs are similar to right now. First 4 games vezina winning stats. Accumulation of last 3 not so pretty. Since we didn't make the game 7 comeback we have no idea if the .900 would have continued for the rest of the playoffs or if he'd find a middle ground for round 2.

So far this is a very long slump with no sign of a middle ground coming yet. Adds to the distrust.

The Leafs right now are like the Alfredsson led Senators with Lalime as the goalie

Not to get off track, but I found this interesting. Lalime actually has the lowest playoff GAA of any goalie from the modern era, and it's not even close. Over 41 playoff games his GAA is 1.77. Of course no one remembers that when you save your worst performances for game seven. Maybe Campbell really is like Lalime...

Does anyone here, has anyone here, played in goal before?

Laine's first goal was taken from the dot...from the dot, Laine got to shoot. He needed a perfect shot, and Laine's capable. He banked it off the post over Jack's shoulder. That's not on Jack.

Second goal, Boqvist was given an escort (with speed), from the top of the circle and a lot of net to look at. Jack's got a great glove hand and more times than not, has that. It was a weird play and if I'm watching something like that come down, I don't know if any part of me prepares for that play given how rare it is on a power play. That's not a bad goal on Jack's part.

Third goal is Jack's to save. Didn't look set and he's saved those before.

Fourth goal: Laine, not completely unlike Matthews, has a fantastic release. Our guys get pushed back again and from the top of the circle (with speed), Laine's getting a very good look and shoots through a screen.

Devil's Advocate: How many other quality scoring chances did Jack save that night?

The Leafs could go .500 from here and still break 100 points.

Come on man. Are we really going to pretend that your goalie getting beat from the top of the circles twice is acceptable? Maybe the Laine goal's not on him as Laine used Matthews as a screen but there isn't a world where the Boqvist goal was anything but a stinker. Also to answer the bolded, maybe like one or two? He really did not have enough chances against to warrant giving up 3 goals let alone 4.

Campbell definitely has the physical attributes to be a number 1 goalie. Unfortunately what's between your ears plays a huge part in how you perform over large sample sizes. I don't know if he can ever develop the mentality of "Forget the stats and be confident on the next shot coming your way"... In other words don't let a soft or 'saveable' goal bother you to the point if affects the rest of the game. You have to have amnesia after a bad goal like relief pitchers do after a bad outing. He is an overly sensitive guy and I'm not sure he can develop this attitude. Lets hope so because I don't see us making a trade for a goaltender this season.

If his numbers dip below that then I don’t even think about signing him back. He can walk and play elsewhere, he isn’t a starting caliber tender. I look for ranta as a 1B and grab someone else cuz he’s not worth it then

At worst Campbell should be giving us Fred numbers (.917-.919). Our defence is better than before, even if it has been slipped a bit. We aren’t playing defence equivalent to getting the 32st save percentage at 5 v 5 since December 1st
