The glaring issue with the team is the defensive depth.. Stanley is a liability out there and needs to be replaced with someone who is lot more steady and consistent..

Number 2 resigning pionk would be foolish he is not built for the playoffs and at his current salary offering him a raise would set this team back drastically.. 5 million plus for undersized defenseman who is approaching his 30s mehh he ain't coming back and if he does no way they pay him over 5

This is how it's going to go down.. jets current cap situation is the envy of every other team.... locked up Morrissey shieffle hellebuck and demelo for average of 7 million is a steal..

There's some ppl in the press and low iq individuals who insinuate the jets aren't in position to easily retain ehlers vilardi and Samberg while still having tons of cap space to add almost any other player they want..

Remember kids u free up almost 7 million after next year just from the money tied up in your buyouts that's 7 million on top of the cap going up... even with 17 plus million additional cap space u have almost 6 million in cap space with your current roster..

U guys get rid of the ridiculous money your paying iaffalo on top of that.. jets have so much cap space next year.. they could sign ehlers for 8 million.. vilaradi 7.5 and Samberg for 5.5 and u guys still have 20 plus million to play with...

So than u extend connor for 11 million following year.. your still laughing.. still so much cap space.. winnipeg is so undesirable to play yet every player u have signed outside of iaffalo is ridiculously underpaid.... every contract on wpg is team friendly and lot them have still have some term..

Just thank God u guys locked up Morrissey shieffle helly b4 cap projected increase came out.. after this year had they been free agents.. they all looking at 10 plus million

Mark with 40 plus goals easily 10.5 plus on a 4 - 5 yr..
Helly best goalie in league vezina he could got 11 million in the open market
And Morrissey I'm thinking Anythinh under 9 is a robbery

You identify Stanley as a liability on the ice, but he is 4th on the Jets for 5 on 5 GF% at 63.64% GF. This is adjusting for 300 minutes played, to weed out non regular players.

How many elite players even play in the AHL in their D+1 or even D+2? Truly elite players drafted in the top 10 usually play in the NHL because if they're drafted out of the CHL they can't go to the AHL. NCAA guys usually stay in the NCAA. I don't think anyone is putting Lambert in that tier.

If we look at just the 2022 draft, Savoie is the highest pick that played time in the AHL this year. He's got .822 PPG (to Lamberts .6) on a team that's scored 34 more goals. Geekie is at .24 PPG in the NHL. Nazar is doing well (1.14 on a team with 148 goals), McGroarty is at .62 on a team with 170 goals, Lekkerimaki is at .87 on a team with 162 goals, etc.



I don't disagree with anything you're saying. The overall point on my post that I was quoted on though was, hey, maybe looking at only this past season on the Moose where they are by far the worst team in the AHL with no scoring talent isn't the best method to decide that he's someone that will never make it and can be easily traded.

Maybe he doesn't make it after all. I'm not making that claim either way. Just commenting on the short sightedness.

And I agree with the different styles between Lambert and Yager. I hesitated to even bring him up, but the point there is that both guys had similar D+1 scoring rates, and Lambert also had a really good D+2 in the AHL. When 1 guy is 21 and the other is 20, looking at Lambert as a finished product that should have been able to carry a bad AHL team but looking at Yager like a prospect with room to grow seems illogical IMO.



Summary: I'm not the President of the Lambert fan club, nor making any proclamations that he will ever be a top 6 NHL player. Just that his most recent season in the AHL on the worst offensive team in the league shouldn't be his only measuring stick. And looking at other players drafted in the 1st round of his draft (top 5 or 10 withstanding), I don't think he's much off any of the other forwards pace when you account for the quality of the Moose this season.

This is a damn fine post.

Huffer is disagreeing with some of the common narrative on Lambert. But he doesn't go for the throat of people who think otherwise. He presents his case with a well thought out argument and data to back it up.

The more of this kind of respectful discussion we have, the better HFBoards is. For all the rest of us assholes, read this post and learn. 😉

I love it when good hockey discussion happens here. I'm less interested in the dick swinging competition that sometimes takes over, mostly because I know I would win.

Give Namestnikov some credit there.

Give me Lowry-Laughton for d-zone matchups. Maybe with Iafallo who was throwing some good sauce up there, and drop the 3rd line wingers to the 4th line.

And then readjust wherever you have to.

The 23 man active roster limit is removed at 12:01am on the date of the trade deadline.

Teams are not permitted to make any transactions prior to the trade deadline date which would cause the team to have more than 23 players on the active roster.

As noted earlier, all trades and signings must be submitted to the NHL before 3pm on the trade deadline date for the player to be eligible for both the remainder of the regular season and playoffs. The NHL might take past the 3pm cutoff to formally approve trades and signings, but the paperwork must be submitted by 3pm.

Players signed after the trade deadline:
- If on the team’s Reserve List at the trade deadline: eligible for the regular season and playoffs. This most typically means draft picks.
- If not on the team’s Reserve List then eligible for regular season but not playoffs.

Players Traded or Claimed on Waivers after the trade deadline:
- Are not eligible to play in the regular season or playoffs. This includes the trade of Draft signing rights after the trade deadline,

He also says that we were going to free up 7 million next year due to buyouts when it is much closer to 5.5 million.
If Pionk is healthy, I want him in the playoffs.

Home ice matchups, Lowry has taken on most team's top players. Almost exclusively. By extension most teams, i.e Colorado with Makar last year, like to matchup their top d-pairing with their top line, so the home matchup would be in fact against both.

On the road yes, Scheif will get the best shutdown d-men. Or offensive d-men, depending on the team.

appleton gets an odd amount of hate on here over the last couple seasons. he's not some irreplaceable player for sure, i've mentioned Palmieri for instance as a possible top-9F upgrade that would usurp him.

however, at a ~2m cap-hit he was the highest scorer of the bottom-6 last year, & this season in terms of finishing (5v5, since he does not PP) he rates better than a few of the HF's favorites. 6 goals and 16 pts on 24 on-ice GF, with 1.47 pts/60 - if he's killing offense, what does that say about some others? he's producing similarly to a couple top-6 Fwds have for the season. if i were to define a mid-3rd liner, it's appleton lol. he's usually my litmus test for the benchmark of top-9 vs top-6 fwd.

A quick look at game logs says that Appleton had 10 points in his first 13 games, including 3 in season opener, and that he has 8 points in the last 36.

Perfetti conversely has 9 points in last 9 games. 12 in last 11.

Adam Lowry has been the model of consistency this season but he's on a season high 5 game pointless streak.

I don't hate Appleton, at least I don't have him pegged at the AHL level, but there have been some missed passes I have seen. Along with lost battles. Yesterday he threw one back up the boards on the cycle, with Adam Lowry out of the play in a physical battle that was kind of a head scratcher.

I would say yes to Palmieri right now. He's been been good from the highlights I've seen.
