Confirmed with Link: Ivan Provorov traded to CBJ (via LA) - 1st, 2 2nds, Petersen, Walker, Grans to Philly

Trading Hart but not TK would be asinine. Going for half a rebuild is stupid, and TK will be 30 before this team is ready to compete again.

He's said similar stuff before, but basically that Konecny is one of Torts guys, and someone they would like to have around for the rebuild.

When you bring in a lot of young players, 20-24 years old, you want a few "glue guys" to mentor and set the tone for the team.

TK should still be highly effective at 30 and fits what they want in their players.
So why I don't think he's untouchable, they're certainly not going to sell low just to move him.
Same with Laughton, where they'll weigh his value to the team v what they're offered. A 1st and he's gone, a 3rd he stays.

The interesting move will be Couts, if he comes back close to 100%, I think they'll let him make the call whether he wants to stay through a rebuild or be moved to a contender. He is the perfect leader for a rebuilding team.

Guys, I dont know anything. I know a purge is coming. We are trading everything, Danny might even trade Captain Dave to the Columbus or LA forum for a flyers fan to be named later

Was yesterday good or bad, it looks like it started like crap, then more was announced and I don't know if we should start planning the parade or have the bull dozers mow down WFC

What contending team has refrained from trading picks for players?
TB is an extreme, b/c I think they see the window closing, but when you're run is 2 Cups and 2 SC Finals, can't argue with success.
But it's pretty much the norm, how many GMs are secure enough to refrain from eating their seed corn when they don't expect to be around in 5 years?

# of picks by the Hurricanes for the last 5 drafts including this month's:

9
7
13
8
12

Seems perfectly doable to me.

Even Carolina trades picks for players, 1st for Skjei, 4th for Vatanen, Faulk & 5th for Edmundson, Reimer for 6th.
Carolina didn't have a 1st in 2021 (T #27 for #40, #51) or 2022 (compensation for Kotkaniemi).
So far, none of these extra picks they did pick up in later rounds have made it to the NHL.
Which raises the question, whether Carolina's scouting is good enough to justify this strategy?

You applied the standard of not trading away picks. My standard was making a high quantity of selections.

I don't care how you get there. It's reasonable to say the execs have so much more info than I do to know which avenues make sense. And some years it won't work out. But on the whole, it should be obvious that it's a priority.

And yet they bring in more picks than go out.

It’s not the Flyers problem anymore (fortunately) but is Werenski enough of like an alpha dog defensemen perception wise to get Provorov to accept reality? Columbus got LA involved to get his salary/cap hit down to a second pair pay grade. So it should be interesting to see if conforms there or does he continue to mope around like he did here for years.

TK has two years left before he needs a new deal, Hart only one. You could trade Konecny in 2024 or 2025 and still get a good return.

I don't disagree with the last part, but there is no way you know there was a better offer, or a better offer couldn't be found. Just like I don't know. And for clarity, I'm not holding it against Danny, just would have liked to see this.
There is a way to know, this was the deal they did. If someone had made a better offer, he would have taken it. It looks like he talked to everyone, and ended up involving LA as the third team to pay part of Provy's salary in exchange for a 2nd pick, one useful player, a prospect as long as we took the cap dump Petersen. It was a pretty complicated deal, so it must've been something they worked on. CBJ was clearly looking for Provy and needed a partner.

I was never a TK believer but he proved me wrong this year. I love watching him play, but agreed. He’d get a large haul. I’d really hope they do it

I don't think Briere knows what he's going to do, other than answer phone calls.

Because the Flyers have announced they're rebuilding, but not "tanking," other GMs know he's under no pressure to make a deal - he doesn't need to create cap room, he's not trying to lose to get Bedard, which means there's no point asking for a Flyers player unless you're willing to pay full price.

So it's a waiting game, he's not going to trade anyone until he receives a suitable offer, he can wait until after the FA frenzy settles and teams that lose out come back to him, or he can pull the trigger tomorrow if someone offers a great deal.
