That's the one I don't get at all. This move would infuriate me as a Jets fan. You knew you weren't getting full value for PLD but this doesn't help them at all. They aren't better, and they aren't really getting futures. Vilardi can't stay healthy and he might end up not signing long term.

I think Chevy is one of the biggest clowns in the NHL. Never been a fan of many of his moves when he does make them, and his overall vision for the team is dated.

If those RFAs don't sign long term with the Jets by the end of the summer he's a bigger goof than I thought. Wouldn't be surprised if Vilardi doesn't even want to be there long term, just like PLD when they acquired him.

With so many pieces wanting out in Winnipeg it just makes more sense to tear it down and start again. This is a move that makes them worse today and doesn't help the future.

Would have been insane. I'm not sure Chevy could have done better to be honest. Its not like he was trading a young Ryan ORielly there.
He could easily have done better if he had done the right thing, rebuilt, and looked for a futures package.
Cue Dubois asking for 11 mil and 8 years.

Many saying Vilardi is too slow to be a center, can't drive a line. Plus he has injury concerns.
Yeah but, as one Jets fan posted, Vilardi possesses qualities uniquely suited to the Peg.

As I stated upstream, this has got to be the most Peg thing to say about an incoming asset in the Dubois official pending trade call:

Isn't Villardi a Kingston lad? He'll be weather-hardened. And be familiar with ice-fishing, prisons, lake culture and so forth.

Get him out to Cabela's and down to the Kenora Ye Olde Chippe Trucke and watch him rip the pen out of Chevver's paw to sign 5 x 4.5

Just how rugged is the Peg?

“Weather-hardened” is apparently an attribute in their player evaluation grid.

Prisons? WTF.

Has the player ever shot a deer from his living room “winda”? (probably also a points grid criteria).

Kenora Ye Olde Chippe Trucke? Is that run by a toothless farmer who keeps reporting UFO sightings?

And of course, their GM “Chevver”, fits into that wild landscape, signing deals with a paw.

Calm down lol I'm just doing like the rest of the specialist followers are doing

I don't believe any of them no one has privy info
They are all guessing just like you and I and the 3000 other social media posters are doing

I still believe he signs long term with Montreal
No, you wanted to act arrogant like you knew something and tried to make people look foolish. Just own up to it.

Everyone talking about the PLD contract but Winnipeg really ought to be negotiating a sign and trade with Vilardi. If he's not interested in being there long term I don't see how you can even make this deal from the Jets perspective. That is what got them into this situation to begin with.

Our equivalent is probably Dach, Dvorak, and Heineman or something, so I'm glad we were out at that price. FWIW I actually don't think the "price" is a problem in terms of the raw value in a vacuum of the assets LA gave up, I would have been happy to give up the equivalent value in terms of futures, but if the Jets are going to insist on Dach being in the trade to be the Vilardi equivalent, that just doesn't make sense for us. Oh well, I'm disappointed it didn't work out but the entire time I've only been interested under the assumption we could get him at a reasonable price that made sense for us and that didn't end up being the case.

I do think it's silly that people have now decided that this was all a big scam the entire time and that his interest was all a negotiating tactic. We'll see what the contract ends up being but Dubois almost certainly left a lot of money on the table by taking this route instead of just taking Winnipeg to arbitration and then hitting UFA next year with the big cap increase. His priority was to get out of Winnipeg and play in a big market with some actual culture and off-ice amenities, and his preference was Montreal but the only way to guarantee that happening would have required him completely f***ing over Winnipeg and insisting he'd only extend with the Habs.

That's just not typically how hockey players tend to operate, and it's not like I can really fault the guy for saying he prefers Montreal but if we can't make a trade for him he's happy to accept 60+ million dollars to play in LA for 8 years.

And when the talking heads say that the Jets couldn't survive a rebuild that would only be because the owner is to effing cheap to have a few down years profit wise. Even if attendance and viewership lags for awhile if they build a contender they'll be back. What else is there to do in Winnipeg in the winter - shoot deer from your window?

The Jets have a tone of cap space + the 10% offseason cap. WTF is Dreger talking about.

Which is funny because the Winnipeg owner is giga rich

ok, and the futures package from Montreal was?

Vilardi is the same age as Nick Suzuki, Kupari is a year younger.

Lets see if Beck is as good or better than Vilardi and Kupari in 3+ years. We may have dodged a bullet. He was the logical one we were offering IMO. Just not NHL ready today.

It will be interesting to see who becomes very good and who disappoints in our pool.

I'm not going to pretend I'm not disappointed. I'm glad we didn't pay the huge price for him but tbh I was still holding on to some hope he would force his way to MTL.

Ahh well. There will be other targets in the coming years.
