Up until this last PO season, I'd have whole-heartedly agreed with you, and maybe still do somewhere deep inside. But after watching the Bruins punch their ticket to a golf course early on, despite Bergeron leaving money on the table to allow the Bruins to get more pieces in the hopes of win a cup, I am not entirely convinced Price would have a cup had he accepted less money.
Because it's bogus... Bergevin failed to properly surround Price when he was making 6.5M and the Habs had 2 seasons with ~8M unused cap after Price signed for 10M.
Bergy failed so much at this roster building thing that Price's contract never became a real issue.
