Up until this last PO season, I'd have whole-heartedly agreed with you, and maybe still do somewhere deep inside. But after watching the Bruins punch their ticket to a golf course early on, despite Bergeron leaving money on the table to allow the Bruins to get more pieces in the hopes of win a cup, I am not entirely convinced Price would have a cup had he accepted less money.

Because it's bogus... Bergevin failed to properly surround Price when he was making 6.5M and the Habs had 2 seasons with ~8M unused cap after Price signed for 10M.

Bergy failed so much at this roster building thing that Price's contract never became a real issue.

I love how all those tweets , those journalists think they know everything , most of them change opinions and backtracker to comeback just to fit the narrative.

Man journalism sure fell off
It does seem like these hockey “insiders” don’t seem to know anything these days. They just break the news a few minutes before it’s official.

The problem is reportedly the ajets don't want Futures. Now if I was PLD I'd give the Jets a hard time about that in terms of going to other teams.

I told you my preference, give you other options, you almost immediately rule out my first choice unless they give you something you know they won't trade? To me that's also bad faith on the jets part.
Replace Mailloux by Matheson or Savard, replace Ylonen by Anderson or Armia (lol), Evans, Dvorak? No, Dvorak is not wanted by Wpeg

Wasn't he the one who said "Montreal and it's not even close."

Now he's all like "I know a lot of people say Montreal, but it's L.A."

PLD is not worth $9M imo. Dr. Drai is going to be wanting a max contract or very close to it but as we've seen, he's worth every penny. What worries me is in that season he'll be 29 and will be wanting a 7 year deal. Not sure I could justify doing it at that price. Would love to have him on our team though.
8.5 is top PLD could get. I think he will have 8M a year, 7 or 8 years term.

It’s like Dubois is a pretty lady, you ask her out « hey beautiful queen would you like to go out with me » … then she say NO and all of the sudden you need to tell her … « you’re such an ugly cow anyway »

Are you familiar with the Crazy/Hot Scale?

Dubois is like... Right on that line, probably somewhere in the fun/date zones. Not terrible to have, but you have to minimize the risk if you get him.

You never know when he might go full Tiffany on you.

Yea. At some point, he said "You'd have to convince me it's not Montreal."

But to be fair to Friedman, he was among the first to mention LA was making a push for PLD.

During an interview on Edmonton’s TSN 1260 radio on Thursday morning, Dreger said the Canadiens, Columbus Blue Jackets and Nashville Predators were the top three teams in the running for Hall,
------
Speaking on Toronto’s TSN 1050 radio on Tuesday, Dreger said: “You know what team that intrigues me with Taylor Hall? A team that made noise today … the Montreal Canadiens
----
Dreger doesn’t expect Hall, who is 6-foot-1 and 205 pounds, to sign with a new team on Friday.

“We would hope that Taylor Hall would get wrapped up on Friday … that’s a long shot at best because he’s going to go through Zoom presentations Friday, they’ll probably drift into Saturday, and he may not make his decision until Saturday night or even on Sunday,” Dreger said. “So that sucks from a television perspective on Friday.”

Mtl is not in a position to trade assets off the team. They need to add to the existing players not subtract. Dubois would be a great addition but not at the expense of a guy like dach. Thats a lateral move. Now signing dubois as a ufa if he makes it there is a totally different situation. Im sure everyone is on board with that.

Exactly this. In year 1 of Price's supposedly cap crunching contract Montreal was 8M under the cap even after handing 10M to Drouin and Alzner. Why should Price or any other player have taken less, so Bergevin could overpay whoever the forward version of Alzner was?

Habs was supposed to get Hall last year and he wanted to come..
that was UNTIL they found out he wanted 8.5 million ..lol

I think the same is happening here with PLD...having to give up assets ....but also
having to shell out 9 million a year....too rich for Habs tastes.

No player should have to take less money then what the market dictates and you listed a good reason with Price and the cap not even being an issue when he was “overpaid” ever being an issue because the suits ultimately control the cap and hold more power in where that cap is spent. But if I’m Dubois knowing the market, which he does, if he takes a team friendly deal, he could’ve taken a lot of pressure off of himself playing just taking what he’s worth plus endorsements. Which is not $9 million. And he could’ve been given the golden key to the city and viewed as a hero to the media.

I can't remember which insider said it but it was basically if Montreal was willing to trade Dach the deal already would have happened so I don't think we have to worry about that. I also don't think any team is trading for Dubois without having an extension so UFA is likely out of the question as well

Friedman said that,

Apron also says they view Dach as a center and Dubois as a winger

No scoop there. Gorton said on knuckles podcast himself that he sees dach at center long term.

I just jumped on here because I see this thread has gone live. Has there been some major development?
