I'd even argue that Carey Price contract killed any chance he had to win a cup. If he had accepted $8M (which is an insane amount as it is) and the extra $2.5M went towards even better defense (UFA) then he'd have cemented his career and legacy.
I understand the objective is to make "as much as possible" but at what point does life become easier on a winning team for 5 years? there is no difference in lifestyle btw $8M and $10M, it's not like $80K v $100K for us commoners. or even $1M v $3M for the ELC guys.

Umm...The Leafs were able to get Matthews, Travares, Marner, Nylander and Rielly under their cap. I'm not saying that's how you build of team, of course not. But they got 'that' many elite players on the roster. We, on the other hand, had Price and...Weber? What did MB do to help with offence? Nothing. Danault? Pleks? DD? As our C's? I mean, come on. Sure, Price's salary didn't help, but I highly doubt that extra 2m would have changed anything with MB making this team better.

If the Habs had any leverage or showed any competitiveness Carey would've likely taken a small haircut. See how PIttsburgh did it. But the Habs didn't have anybody in the pipeline or anywhere who could remotely help carry the load and do Carey wasn't going to leave money on the table for nothing.

I think the ones who are really holding outs may be the Jets. Both the Kings and the Habs know they isn't a lot of suitors for PLD so they have little incentive to be generous in their trade offer. The Jets have every incentives to drag this as long as possible in the hope of not getting screwed too much.
I think if PLD is at the point of negociating with the Kings, that the deal is done pending his signing a deal.

They wouldn't make him go through the point of working out a contract if the deal wasn't already in place and judging from the Winnipeg reporters, it's Vilardi and Iafallo + going the other way.

Come on man... You're better than this!
35 players scored from 60-69 points in the NHL last season and if that production commands 9 million a year then it is going to be very tough to be a winning team especially for Canadian teams. I am willing to bet that RHP could get between 40-60 points if given a legit shot with good linemates and will only cost 2-3 million a season. Dubois does not bring enough to a team to justify a 9 million per season salary. Let Bergie have him and see how it turns out for them.

I thought Chicago had taken a rebuilding direction. Is it over just because they landed Bedard?
With 16 teams in professional tank mode for half the season these days I just hope they blow up the cap soon and just let gm’s try and build winning teams, screw this rebuild by building crap teams business!

The way things are going, a decent 3rd liner will cost close to 5M very soon.

He has 434 games in the NHL with 302 points, which translates to .69 points per game, about 57 points averaged over an 82-game season. He is well past the 300 NHL game milestone which usually gives us an indication of what a player will produce stats-wise.
