Here’s what I think.
Jets are dangling PLD to Kings in hopes Habs come back with a better offer because they know PLD won’t sign an extension with LA. That’s why they haven’t even let him talk to Kings yet. If they had a deal in place, they’d let him talk extension with LA to finalize the deal. The fact he hasn’t even spoken to LA says that the deal isn’t close to being done and Jets probably waiting to see if Hughes flinches. I think the deal goes down day before or at the draft depending on Habs pick. If they trade down they can get another 1st rounder or good prospect along with the drop down pick to have more assets to make the trade work.

I know Hughes will make a big splash so I expect a lot of action in the next 1-2 days. Will have to get a new refresh button by Thursday, I’m sure lol.

A young right hand shot defenseman. I would have figured that Hughes would have been in on Durzi in all honesty, knowing how cheap his contract is and how he’s still an RFA, along with being one or Suzuki’s closest friends. A mid second round pick was peanuts.

It also seems reasonable that the Jets are trying to pit the Kings and Canadiens against each other in the Dubois sweepstakes.

Mostly speculation form both the Habs and Jets perspective, but there is some interesting news here:

"Meanwhile, both teams are aware of Dubois’ contractual expectations, although formal negotiations have yet to begin. Neither the Kings nor the Canadiens have been given permission by the Jets to talk about contract details with Dubois’ representation."

My interpretation of the last 24hours then is that the Jets leaked their potential deal with LAK to try to get the Habs to pony up.
As Arpon discusses in the article, the Habs really don't have the right assets for this to work with the Jets, but he speculates that like with the Dach trade, Hughes can be crafty and acquire those assets.
