I think the trade is finished but they are playing this game with media so they can sell it Wednesday at the draft for hype. Dubois will be a King
Berg comes down from the rafters in full wrestling gear and make-up, grabs Hughes and just as he’s about to pile-drive him from the 3rd rope…. Omg the lights come off and right back on to… a bud light commercial

New Artheltic article on PLD:

Mostly speculation form both the Habs and Jets perspective, but there is some interesting news here:

"Meanwhile, both teams are aware of Dubois’ contractual expectations, although formal negotiations have yet to begin. Neither the Kings nor the Canadiens have been given permission by the Jets to talk about contract details with Dubois’ representation."

My interpretation of the last 24hours then is that the Jets leaked their potential deal with LAK to try to get the Habs to pony up.
As Arpon discusses in the article, the Habs really don't have the right assets for this to work with the Jets, but he speculates that like with the Dach trade, Hughes can be crafty and acquire those assets.
Lol. That’s exactly what I said!

Habs re-engaging for Dubois means Hughes may have something other than coming back with players Winnipeg already passed on. That don't really make sense to re-engaged on that.

I remember last year, not sure if it was Hugues himself or someone close to the situation who mentioned that Chicago wanted a good 1st round pick for Dach and Hugues didn't had any so he went out and got what Chicago was looking for.

Hughes might have re-engaged cause he might have found the asset Winnipeg was looking for with another team looking for future for their NHLer (Like Philly or San Jose for example)

I think that's bullshit. Lol

No way we're doing that.

How mad are fans if HuGo does this:

Trade 5th to Philly for 7th + 22nd, then trade 7th in a package for Dubois.

We miss out on the top tier of the draft but then we also have 2 first round picks (22 and 31) PLUS Dubois.

Re read my comment. I said if Habs are giving up on Hutson and Barron, they probably think they can replace them and that they're disposable. Habs have Mailloux on RD in that case and that's it. That's be the biggest need on the team. If those two were included instead of a forward prospect, I simply said they're probably then targeting a D to replace the loss of two D prospects

But who cares. We'll get there when we get there. We're not winning the cup this year anyway. We have all the time in the World to get a right-shooting D by trading for some. Harris can also play on the right.

Pierre-Luc is a beautiful big tall costeaux gros bonhomme and most importantly, he is 100% Quebecois!

I would be in Ecstasy if this happens!

In that scenario, the 22nd pick is the one that should be on the board for Dubois, the 7th is still way too much

And I wanted to add I don't think they are giving up on Hutson??

That's a monster deal.

I don't see the fit between Hellebuyck and the Habs personally. Doesn't seem to mesh with how Hughes sees this going. But let's break this trade down:

Monty - GK with upside, could be a cheap surprise as a 1a type
Barron - Good NHL prospect, seasoned, on the verge of being a NHLer
Dvorak - we know what he is
RHP - cheap sparkplug type who scored at a nearly 50 point pace, could be their Paul Byron
Ylonen - tweener
Mesar - recent 1st round pick who had a brutal season

I feel like distinguishing them as follows:

Monty, RHP, Barron -> Nearly NHLers with upside for more
Ylonen -> irrelevant, not interesting to WPG
Dvorak -> NHLer with a bad cap hit making him a neutral value asset
Mesar -> recent skill prospect who's lost a lot of value in a short amount of time

I'm not sure if WPG wants this but it seems like there's value there. It's too diffuse though, it hurts our depth (Dvorak, RHP and Barron would've been in the NHL this year with us) and doesn't help their inexplicable goal to keep competing. Doesn't scratch anybody's back.
You're the guy who rightly says that depth is less important than a core player, at loeast when rebuilding.

In that scenario, I could see Montreal trading up with the 22nd and the 31st and adding that to the mix for Dubois, but keeping the 7th OA as their own pick.

Dubois + Leonard (7th OA) could be an interesting mix.

Dubois - Suzuki - Caufield, with Dubois more than willing to be net presence (displayed in his game in the past) and Caufiled able to thread the needle when the opposing G 's sights are obstructed.

Leonard as an ideal line mate for Dach as the 2nd line C, with Slafkovsky rounding out the line.

The top-6 would have two legitimate snipers in Caufield and Leonard. The top line would have two other members with a 30-goal potential in Dubois and Suzuki.

Dach would be an ideal playmaker for Leonard as a sniper and Slafkovsky could be a hybrid shooter/passer who could be strong on the cycle and provide puck protection down low in the offensive zone.

I'd see Roy - Beck - Heinemann as an in your face two-way third line with a mix of speed, puck possession and physicality, also boasting offensive upside.

Form your own 4th line from what's left. That shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Anderson could get moved in a three-way deal for Dubois and provide WIN with a talent that has no trade protection.

I agree with you whole heartedly. But does HuGo? That was my point. You're 100% correct in theory but that doesn't mean you're assessment on how things would preceed is correct

Well I cannot affect alternate realities like the Flash. lol
True just saying Hugo might like Reinbacher so much that he plays it like that. He might think Reinbacher is a true no. 1 guaranteed and thinks the other two I mentioned are expendable because he's guaranteed an amazing D

The Kings due to a very tight cap for next season would probably like the Jets to sign PLD to a 1 year contract and retain 50% of it before making the trade and then the Kings re-signing PLD for 8 years.

That scenario would really help the Kings cap situation and give them the ability to add more pieces for next season plus it should get the Jets a better return due to them retaining 50% on the 1 year contract.

Not sure PLD would want to take the risk of signing for 1 year and risk possibly getting injured before he can potentially sign for 8 years in Jan though.
