So, draft Smith, acquire a d, or winger.
Draft Michkov, acquire a centre, or d.

He’s shown that’s his MO. Last year was draft Wright or trade Romanov for Dach to get his center and then draft Slaf. Wright & Romanov be Dach and Slaf. Could easily see him do the same this year, as per your post.

I think Dubois is going to LA too. But I’m just going to take advantage of the moment to remind people to never trust a word coming from Fraudgnotta.

Last year, the day before UFA he tweeted out he was ‘told’ by ‘sources’ that the Islanders would be one of the teams that would be ‘competitively’ pursuing Gaudreau.

Result: Gaudreau speaking to the press after getting booed during an Isles game: “ I didn't talk to [the Islanders] once throughout the whole free agency”.

Few days later he arises from his hole once more and tweets out: “Sources: Nazem Kadri and NYI have agreed on a contract, 7 years x $7.25 Mil AAV. NTC throughout the whole contract.”

Result: Kadri signs with the Flames

I'm not sure if I trust pagnotta as a source but the Durzi trade certainly looks like LA are opening up cap. The thing is LA minus Iafallo, Vilardi and Durzi are worse than adding Dubois. I wonder if Bergevin is just trying to spite us.

I don't see LA part out Iafallo and Vilardi for Dubois. Seems the price is too high to be possible. It's just fake trades proposals as usual.

I doubt it. A 1 yr 2 mil contract doesn't affect anything and gives Monahan a chance to go to a contender at the trade deadline if he wants to and can stay healthy.

It's too high because they shouldn't have to give up that much to get him if they are the only real bidders. It shouldn't take nearly that much to outbid HuGo.

I honestly don't know why they'd want to part with Vilardi considering his age. I'm aware their center core is aging with Kopitar and Danault, but I feel it would be just smarter to try to put Vilardi at center, or try to put Byfield in a top 6 role.

Byfield and Vilardi aren't that good. 3 years before they were considered a future force but they didn't ended as good as expected. Their value went down but not Dach. If I was LA I would keep Byfield and part out with Vilardi. Iafollo is a good energized small winger but he's not "elite" in the league. He's replacable.

Vilardi is not a center anymore and Lafollo is a 3rd liner at 29. If habs get outbid by this offer, it's because they were simply not interested.

It's not a regular trade. PLD value's is far better than those two, it's just that PLD's contract is one year. Winpg have small pourcentage of the value the player have. Or the extra winpg are trying to get is to talk to him first and sign him whatever the negociations.

True. HuGo has vey few assets they would want to move so they aren't going to able to add much in the way of NHL ready players. Not likely adding and FA's either. Dubois is the only possible addition but he would have to come realtively cheaply. They might have looked at Monahan because Dubois might not come cheaply enough. They could also keep Drouin.
