Long story short you never know what version of PLD you get, often it's not the one you want.

I haven't looked at the cap situation, but good things Dubois wants out in the end if they still have to get more salaries out.

And no, Habs can't take his contract, him + Dubois would bust Price on LTIR and the Habs would have to pay to dump players to make it fit.

Quick question on this: I was under the impression that you could not trade a player that was awarded a arbitration settlement for the entire next season. Did that change or did I misunderstood that point? In my mind, Jets have until the arbitration's decision come out to trade him, so that would be some time in August otherwise they get zero value out of him.

No, you can trade arbitration award players. It's just players who sign an offer sheet, you can't trade for one year.

They have the cap space over the next 2 seasons to do it. No doubt about that. PLD, Scheifele, Wheeler & Hellebucyk are all gone this summer.

Has there been ANYONE, even the most biased Habs fan that have said, PLD would make us an instant contender? That’s just vitriolic nonsense. You can dislike the player for whatever reasons, his attitude etc, his potential contract but you can’t create a false narrative to hand out self high fives.

PLD gives us three major things:

A Big shutdown center that can play on the edge, in the prime of his career. Size in your lineup matters, especially at center in the playoffs.

A two headed monster at center. Finally Suzuki gets some help down the middle. He’s been a lone warrior out there for a long time. Adding PLD gives Suzuki better matchups, which should only increase his production.

A genuine Francophone star in his prime, who wants to be here. That counts for a lot. Even now. The last one we had was Stephane Richer, (sorry Damphousse) and most of the Xbox crowd have no idea who either guys were.

PLD is not a big shutdown center. He’s a 60 point player, not a francophone star. Only members of this fanbase consider him a star.
