Teams get more at the trade deadline for fracking rentals! People are delusional not gonna lie...
It's a big risk for Winnipeg to wait until the TD even if they could get a better price. So unless a contract is already worked out before a trade this summer it's expected that it would be for less then they could get at the deadline.

Drouin PTSD clearly...
Could be. Over pay in a trade-check, over value the commodity-check, people want him because he's from around here-check. I guess I can see the similarities if I really try.

People just don't want him because he from Montreal. That's false. It's a lot of talk because he wants to come home during his prime and at a time when he fits our growing core and won't be on an island by himself.

Doesn't appear to matter now. Jets said they will not to go arbitration with him so it's appears that it will be 99% he is traded from now till draft. I'm sure they have talked and reviewed a lot of the offers from those 5 or 6 teams.

One angle to this is I wonder about the time it takes to get the 2nd part done on the sign/trade. So lets say there is an agreed trade but it takes 3-5 days to get the contract signed. Jets need to be prepared before the draft to allow time for that contract because teams will shy away if they don't know what the 8 year deal AAV is.

Can't wait until draft day IMO. If it's announced on draft day, I'm sure the acquiring team already has an agreed hand shake extension.

No they didn't outright say it. But it was the way they said it. It gave the impression something is up. They could have just been saying it to have fun. But Marcotte said something along the lines of "tomorrow, there's a chance we'll be talking Habs" and Lavoie sarcastically said "oh, there's something going on with the Habs?"

It's just the impression I got.

I posted this in the PLD thread. But I don't know if anything does indeed happen that it's regarding PLD.
So…..any *wink *wink news here?

How can an 8-year extension and trade bring you less than what you'd get at the TDL?? Come on a guys...

I do not buy these argument. Cheap stuff in my opinion. Anyone that has a bit of hockey knowledge knows the value of a big center who can at time play physical and elevates his game during playoff if he is well surrounded. We would not bring Dubois to be the leader of this team he would be a complement and to me Suzuki, Dach, Dubois, Caufield, Slakowski, Ghule is quite a solid core to which we can build on. Nothing to do with where the guy is from. Change the name for another young center like Niko Hischer (assuming he would be in the same situation) and the argument would be identical, and for what it matters I think well surrounded Dubois can have just as big of an impact on our team then Hischer has in NJ. If there is one thing that we can learn from Vegas this year is that sometime you need to be aggressive on the trade market to get the pieces that you need in the long run.

If the trade is announced on draft day, the contract is done. Signed. It’s not a “handshake” deal.

The second part of a sign-and-trade is the trade. The nomenclature accurately depicts the sequence of events.

if he sits out they can't even trade him as he has no contract.
Sign and trade
Edit: Oh that's right. I remember with the Nylander contract that there's a deadline.

Can he even legally sit out? I mean he had a contract for this season.
He can sit out even if he has a contract, he just won't get paid. But he doesn't have a contract for the upcoming season.

If, and it's a big if, the Habs could move up and get Fantilli, I'd rather go that route than the Dubois route. It would be cheaper in cost and salary. Winnipeg will want too much and 9 million for Dubois is a bit much.
