Every BPM SPANRE clip i come around is like listening to a hobo at berri Uquam talk about hockey , like regardless of the person who's talking its always awful , some mononcle at the family gathering stuff its pretty impressive that people listen to this

I know a lot of people who do. I don't think they're totally wrong though

He’s playing with Evans and Armia. They’re our best defensive forwards and forecheckers. Laine has NOT contributed to that at all.

So you acknowledge that Laine's defensive stats are better because he's playing with Evans and Armia, but don't acknowledge that his offensive game isn't there because he's playing with Evans and Armia who are more opportunistic shorthanded players than offensive players.

That second line is still an absolute trainwreck. They are scoring more goals sure, but they are still allowing more. That's a liability. Not entirely surprising when it's a line filled with flawed outcasts.

All these comments like his knee isn't still bothering him. He also missed an entire year. I would expect next season he would look a lot different.

The whole conversation started regarding a notion that is being peddled that Laine was being held back by Dach and Newhook. The counter point was actually that Laine was hurting Dach and Newhook.

Since they've been split, Laine has produced no offense and Dach + Newhook have 3 pts in 2 games. So it is quickly dispelling the notion that Laine was being held back and confirming that, in the offensive zone, the lack of success was happening because Laine was having bad puck touches and turnovers.

I'm optimistic about Laine only because we aren't expecting him to be our best player. He's going to get some good insulation next year when Demidov and other enter the fold. I think he'll be used efficiently.

His offensive game hasn’t been there in a while. It’s got nothing to do with linemates. He was slow and looked disinterested before playing with them.

I just meant were going to have young forwards drawing into the fold next season (who wins those spots TBD) and so what I'm saying is Laine isn't being tasked with putting the team on his back and his PP specialist role will be a better net positive

its a lot of money for a guy that just takes a dump at the top of the circle and waves his stick in the air scoring a few goals. Did anyone tell him he's expected to help away from the play and when we aren't on the PP?

He'll get meaningful minutes with other smart players. The quality of linemates is gonna be much higher and should be able to help him do his thing.

Yup! Same will happen next season with Habs when he plays with Demi and hopefully an actual 2C.

Laine is a guy who needs others to create enough space for him. Most often its done by a skilled player/players who are a big enough scoring threat for opponents to cover them actively, even to have an additional player there to stop the player. After that the skilled player can dish Patty the puck to an optimal scoring spot while Patty is free from opponents' sticks.

Dach, Newhook, even Armia and Evans, who he played and plays with, are not skilled enough for it to happen. It used to be enough for patty to have these type of players in his line to get decent production. Its no longer the case, at least not in his current form.

Next season we will see what Patty really can do nowadays. 4 nations will offer some glimpses of it, but we gotta remember that he wont miraculously get in shape for it. But he will do decently that I am sure of.

How many forwards do they have? I can't imagine Finland are keen on giving this version of Patrik Laine much ice time. Lots of noise and it will get louder if Marty ever decides to take him off PP1.
