It's all over for Jack Eichel

Like so many have said, there is no doubt that Eichel is going to be one on the best players in the NHL sooner rather than later. I just wish he would leave BU and come to the Q so I could enjoy watching his talents in person.

Does draft position in the first round of the NHL draft matter ? I mean the kids probably care, because they are competitive / proud, but its not like in the NFL where every spot you slide costs you millions in signing bonuses.

So Eichel goes #2. Who cares.

So Eichel looks better than McDavid for the first 3 games of the tournament and then has ONE bad game and suddenly it's no contest? Some of you people are so short sighted it's not even funny.

They're both just as close as they were before the tournament started.

This works both ways.

All of a sudden people are down on Virtanen and real high on Dylan Larkin.

This was his chance to show everyone he is better then McDavid and get drafted first overall.

Both are going to go back to their leagues and dominate but McDavid is pretty much a lock for first pick now

Do you guys agree? Or do you think Eichel still has a shot to be the first pick.

Makes sense because usually that's how organizations build their board off micro sample sizes

It wasn't just 1 bad game... He didn't overly impress in the other games either and for a guy that has been playing right up to the tournament solid it wasn't a great showing...

Aside from the fact that Mcdavid had been scoring at a Wayne Gretzky OHL pace and higher than Crosby's pace ... I don't think they are 1a , 1b comparable.

Eichel = Getzlaf
Mcdavid = Crosby

I know in a draft situation while Getzlaf is a great player I'm taking Crosby 100/100 times.

And the McDavid's game won't translate banter.. that's like saying crosby was the next Daigle...

The argument between their OHL and NCAA scoring paces is completely unrelated to the ridiculous sample size self proclaimed "amateur scouts" on this site love to use.

Neither of these guys lived up to the insane hype they've been getting.

Both will be about on par with former #1's like Tavares or Hall. Forget comparisons to Crosby, Modano, etc.

In what way haven't they lived up to the hype?

Whether Eichel goes first or second, it isn't going to affect his NHL career (unless first or second happens to be the Oilers...then he's screwed). In fact, going second may add one more motivating factor to him or McDavid to prove they are better.

At the end of the day, i don't think anyone would be disappointed drafting 2nd this year.

Typical WJC overhype for prospect evaluation. The vast majority in Canada turn their attention to junior hockey prospects for a few weeks and they base their assessment of a kid on a small sample size. I thought Eichel looked great for a 17 year old and I would kill to have him on the Jets. He is putting up insane numbers in college hockey for his age and he is the real deal. Who gives a **** about a short tourney.

Sure McDavid will probably go 1st but this year there are two at the top who are both great IMO.

I don't think you quiet caught on... I was simply saying that he was scoring at a higher PPG than crosby himself... There was no mention of NCAA....

This is silly. In 2013, we have the same thing but in reverse. MacKinnon bombed and Jones was the star. How did that turn out? While I hope McDavid is miles ahead on Eichel come draft time, things can change and will it matter?

Eichel's 18. :sarcasm:

I'd take McDavid but I bet there are a few GMs who favor Eichel. They might not have the balls to take Eichel No.1 but I wouldn't be surprised. Eichel's reach and defensive potential are better than McDavids. Eichel'so floor as a prospect is Ryan Johansen IMO. Also, Getzlcf is a great player but not nearly the skater Eichel is. At BU, Eichel is playing a lot of hero hockey and it was clear that carried over too much in the WJC.

McDavid looked really good to me - especially so fresh off a serious injury. His edge work is simply amazing. I think he is a MacKinnon/St.Louis hybrid. I just don't see the hockey sense to justify the Crosby comparisons. Don't get me wrong, McDavid has a good hockey IQ but Crosby has eyes in the back of his head. Didn't see that from Connor

Bottom line is neither of the McEichel duo looks like Crosby/Mario. I see two safe bets who will emerge A as top 10 players in the next half decade.

You need to reassess if you are embarrassed by the actions of others

As for McDavid/Eichel, McDavid was always going to go first. Fun to debate I guess but no team would ever pass on McDavid.

You can be embarrassed as a Canadian, and Team Canada fan, without being embarrassed on a personal level.

I don't need to reassess that booing a kid playing for the love of the sport, and country is embarrassing . It used to be what this tournament was primarily about.

I didn't think so. I don't know why everyone keeps saying this. And I've seen Eichel play a lot, he was only so-so in comparison to the way he usually plays.

Considering the draft is over 6 months away I think that you are making way too big of a deal about this and I don't think Mcdavid has been any better so far in the Tournament. Eichel to me looks like the superior player at this point however Mcdavid is coming off an injury and is a full year of hockey behind him. I personally think this should be taken into consideration when evaluating a player if they are from the same draft but with different birth years. I really don't know who the better player will be and realistically no one does. Injuries and development will also play a factor in both players careers.

You cant go wrong with either, flip a coin.

While I agree that Connor McDavid will go #1 overall, I haven't really been all that impressed with him. McDavid is being talked about as the next Sidney Crosby in a very deep draft, and I'm left uninspired by his play so far.

I'm not saying that McDavid isn't going to be an excellent NHL player, I was just expecting a more dominate player from him in this tournament. I'm not sure if he's lived up to the hype.

In Erie, Connor McDavid looks unreal. But when he's surrounded by the best of the best from around the world, he looks very much average. Just my opinion.

Let the flaming begin! :yo:

Said it earlier, but I suppose it is worth saying again.

Last night McDavid looked like a guy who had gotten over the pressure, the rust after being injured, and showed why he gets so much hype.

I think he is going to be a dynamic force for the rest of the tournament.

Playing on the same level of competition, if he could outplay McDavid then it would help his chances alot more.

I think McDavid will go #1 especially since how well he has been playing at the World Juniors, outplaying Eichel. I think McDavid is just about a lock if he plays as expected in the OHL and goes into the playoffs, going deep into the playoffs and winning the Memorial Cup is a 100% lock.

Are you saying the OHL is tougher than the NCAA?

As others have said i don't think too much stock should be put in such a small tournament. I didn't see the quarterfinal game against Russia yesterday so I can't comment on that but in the games I DID watch Eichel he looked fantastic.

This "race for first overall" stuff is a bit silly in my opinion. Both are good players, both will excel in the NHL and their legacy will be created by what they do there, not on what they do this year and who gets picked first
