It's all over for Jack Eichel

MacDavid and Eichel are 1A and 1B. All I know is there are two teams that are going to be very happy come Draft day.

Tonight after Russia won, the chants from some of the locals in Montreal turned to, Eichel sucks. Lol, the number one overall thing is going overboard nowadays lol.

This kid is going to be insane one day. Can't wait to see him develop.

Except for Canadians, such as myself, and the majority of others, who see why he is getting the hype he is.

Seems like a lot of people want to see him fail, I struggle to find reasons why, him and McDavid are going to be great ambassadors for the NHL and the game of hockey.

Not really surprising considering where the game was played. These are the same fans that booed the American National anthem before, and continually boo most French Canadians because they don't play for their team

I think both will elite players of their generation.

Not sure I hear many hoping Eichel will fail. I hear a lot say they want a lottery pick to get him.

Neither of these guys lived up to the insane hype they've been getting.

Both will be about on par with former #1's like Tavares or Hall. Forget comparisons to Crosby, Modano, etc.

Crowds chanting "Eichel sucks" and booing him every time he touches the puck seems a little unnecessary in a Junior tournament

I'm a bigger fan of McDavid because i love seeing kids from the GTHL make the show, but people pointlessly bashing Eichal to big up McDavid are idiots. On top of nationalism it also attracts the CHL vs NCAA debate. I want Eichal to live up to the hype, same with McDavid (as long as neither plays for the Bruins, Sabres, MTL or Ottawa). These two players having a prolonged rivalry will be good for growing them game, Crosby vs Ovechkin did, and having an American in the rivalry for the best player in the game will be amazing.

If this particular WJC has taught me anything, it's that everybody is far too focused on the draft. Eichel and McDavid haven't been the best guys in the tournament by a long shot yet they continue to most of the attention. I think we all need to take a step back from the hype machine for a bit.

I also agree with the poster who said that in a few years it won't really matter who was taken first and who went second. Patrik Stefan was taken first and Daniel Sedin second. You tell me which of those guys will be remembered longer.

Eichel could have scored 10 goals this tournament and still wouldn't have gone 1st overall. I don't know why people thought this one tournament was going to be the deciding factor. I stil think Eichel is going to be the better player in the NHL, though.

I was actually more impressed by Eichel in the tournament then McDavid thus far he pretty much had to try and do everything for the States where as McDavid isn't even part of Canada's most important forward line, of course I didn't see today's game but I don't really care that McDavid put up three points against Denmark...

I still think McDavid will probably be the better player but Eichel seems to have all the makings of the perfect 1C to build a team around. Btw I am Canadian and don't understand all of the stupid Canadian hoo rah are you guys like McDavid's family members?

McDavid was never going to be the best player in the tournament. Team Canada always goes by seniority and Sam Reinhart has more experience than McDavid so making him the #1C was a no brainer.

Eichel on the other hand was given an opportunity to be that guy on his team and he couldn't do it.

McDavid could be the best player next year but I doubt the team that drafts him sends him unless they are absolutely terrible.

Draft ranking matters very little though: I remember the Leafs getting Luke Schenn and the Sens drafting Erik Karlsson. After Schenn's first year, I mocked a friend of mine who is a Sens fan saying how you need to tank to get better players and then Karlsson just ripped the league apart .

Agreed. If true, unneccesary and embarrassing.

I 100% agree. How embarrassing and rude to someone who is, for all intents and purpose, a kid in a junior tournament, and a guest in your "home". I admit to hoping that McDavid > Eichel in the draft and then throughout their NHL careers, but what has Eichel done at this stage of his career to deserve being booed at an international junior tournament...?! :help:

I feel bad for Eichel, if that's the case. I'd rather visitors to Canada during this tournament look at how well the Danes were treated throughout this tournament and during tonight's game to see how most Canadian hockey fans really are, instead of this embarrassing display. :shakehead

Saw thread title, was wondering if Eichel was involved in some bizarre satanic cult thing or had been recorded snorting toilet cleaner with Jamaican drug dealers in Toronto or something.

I don't think he ever had a chance.

Does any team really want to be the team that passed on McDavid?

This is why if we finish last, I hope someone else wins the lottery. I think Eichel is a better fit for the Oil, but I know damn well we wouldn't be able to pick him #1 without the entire hockey world having a meltdown.

I still think Eichel looked better in their heads up game. Didn't have as good a game as you'd hope for today, but it's only one tournament. He's bigger, stronger and has a better shot than McDavid. I like the less physical Getzlaf comparison. I just feel his game will translate better at the NHL level. Both could be 90+ point players, I just like the style of Eichel's game more.

One thing must be stated...saying McDavid has not been very good in this tournament, or even stating that he has not been one of the best players...is so four or five days ago.

He is currently 2 points out of the scoring lead in the tourney and sitting at +6. He has also won two POTG awards out of five, I believe.

This is a pretty phenomenal outcome already for a kid in his draft year.
