It's all over for Jack Eichel

Canadian media being what it is, Eichel really never had a shot at getting picked before McDavid. "Hmmm, let's NOT draft the most hyped prospect since Crosby." It was never going to happen.

That said, Eichel will be just as good as McDavid imo. He definitely has the 'it factor' going for him.

I dare say he might even be better when all is said and done. It's going to be awesome following these two guys head to head for the next decade.

Next year is going to really bring a jolt of excitement to the NHL.

Like how everyone in that Bobby Ryan on the streets of Ottawa clip recognized him right?

Bobby Ryan is a household name in his house only. My 80 year old mother knows who Jack Eichel and Connor McDavid are.

I bet you in ten years Eichel is closer to Phil Kessel territory, and McDavid is making us forget the reign Sidney Crosby had as Canada's best player.

Obviously I was exaggerating by saying all of Canada, but it seems like a vocal minority are rooting against him, and I don't understand the point of it, because McDavid and Eichel are going to be great for the game.

im sure those classy americans would have welcomed mcdavid like the rightfull heir to the throne of hockey.

make sure you watch both sides before crossing that two way street.

Don't worry Eichel fans Arizona will be "winning" the draft lottery so McDavid will be reunited with Domi and save Bettman's desert franchise then Eichel will be picked 2nd by the Oilers

may I kindly ask what the hell you are talking about?

the Canadian Media currently represented big time by TSN which is Canada based, a guy by the name of Craig Button said he can't tell who is better, and even Ray Ferraro said there is little "separation" between the 2, in fact Canada is covering more on Eichel then USA is on McDavid.

double standard.

Didn't Jeremy Roenick say something similar? (paraphrasing) He could walk down any street in the U.S. and not be recognized. Anywhere he was in Canada, people knew who he was.

well of course. the NHL is the 4th ranked professional sports leauge in the United States. It's not big to them. If an MLS soccer player walked down the street of a Canadian team I don't think he will be recognized. I think that was why Spezza wanted to play for an American team? who knows.

I just want to go on record as saying that the comments that go like "Well, he scored all his points against Denmark and Germany so the NHL will put him in his place" are easily the dumbest type of comments ever.

Who do you think the top NHLers score their points against? Only the five best teams in the NHL?

People shouldn't stare at points prospects make at this tournament too much anyway but the gap between the best and worst NHL team is significantly smaller than the one between Canada U20 and Denmark U20. Germany or Denmark beating Canada at this level would be a miracle, 30th place NHL team beating the league leaders not so much.

The tournament is less about points and more about their actual play in it. McDavid didnt score in his first few games like we expected but he looked good and just kept looking better. Eichel looked just as solid in his games.

McDavid gets first OA and nothing will change that, theres to much hype around him but Eichel looks to me like a Getzlaf clone, which isnt a bad consolation prize.

It was always over for Eichel. He never had a shot at going first overall. Barring McDavid completely falling off the face of the earth, it was always going to be him.

eichel plays against 21 yr old Men
mcD plays against for the most part 18 yr old plugs

so that would make his tournament even worse than it appeared.

he should have had no trouble at all playing against kids if he can dominate against men.

this argument is bunk.

(Don't get me wrong, I think Jack will be a dynamite player. My team in particular would be lucky to have him. But arguing he is better because he plays against men is bunk. most of the guys either jack or connor play against now, won't be NHL'ers. They both play against "plugs." But if Jack plays against "men" then that should have been an advantage for him when he went slumming and playing against "boys" but it wasn't. He had a 'good' tournament. But he wasn't as good as Connor who got better as the tourney worse on, as the level of competition increased, as he shook off the rust of a 5 week injury layoff.)

We saw enough of both these young players (among the youngest in the tourney, to know that they will both be true superstars in the future.
