A bust is a bust. I’m not sure the round really matters. He was a 2nd round pick. You gotta at least see what you have in him.

Need a Russian around for when we trade VarlyWhy? Must Lou sign everyone he drafts?
You're right man. Silly me for thinking a 21 year old second rounder deserves a shot. Don't know what I was thinking!A bust is a bust. I’m not sure the round really matters.
He’s a fine player, PPG in the DEL for a decent stretch he just had a bad injury that he had a hard time with (high ankle sprain I think).I mean I haven't watched him play in Europe, but his stats look pretty good considering he was just 20 and 21 years old:
Last year: 38 points in 54 games
This year: 22 points in 25 games
Because he has talent. He played very well as a 20 year old in Liiga in 20-21 and pretty well in the German Del in the recently completed 2021-2022 season as a 21 year old. The Islanders would have been foolish not to sign him to a two way contract and let his rights expire. Look at the caliber of prospect that teams are signing before June 1st and many are not even close to being as good as Ishkakov and yet their NHL teams are still signing them to ELC's!Why? Must Lou sign everyone he drafts?
He's only 21. Keep hope alive.Shame he didn't have a late growth spurt!
I remember keeping hope alive at 21 too. He's only 21. Keep hope alive.
The late growth spurt never happened?I remember keeping hope alive at 21 too
He’s a bust already?A bust is a bust. I’m not sure the round really matters.

I'd add Cockerill and Krygier but I can do without Migreas. Krygier seems tough, could carve out a role in the A. Cockerill at least has a skill set to add in PKing and speed. He has to date!
In fact, he's signed ALL Islander draft picks. Or at least added them to the system via his son in BPort (3 were signed to AHL deals).
But every single one who was on deck for a signing has been signed.
Cockerill and Migreas would be the next guys up to bat. Maybe Krygier if he can't transfer. Would need to be signed by August 15th.
Did you see Ishkakov play when he was at UConn?Iskhakov seems like a prospect who will get his fair share of points (and maybe even highlights) at the AHL level but doesn’t seem like someone who will translate to the NHL well in my opinion.
In order to be effective as an undersized forward at the NHL level you need to either have strength on your skates or speed. From the little I remember from Iskhakov’s scouting report, he has neither of those.
Having good east/west edgework will only get you so far if you’re getting knocked off the puck easily or can’t evade checkers with speed.
Not as much as I would have liked.Did you see Ishkakov play when he was at UConn?

A remember a few highlights from UConn but I still can’t get that clip out of my head when he was knocked unconscious. I almost just re-posted it but then thought better.Did you see Ishkakov play when he was at UConn?

He is small and not a great skater from what I remember. Guys like that don’t usually translate to being good NHL players. Hopefully Lou includes him in a deal. IMO he will never play a game with the Isles.Because he has talent. Not all ELC signings are for NHL players, though, AHL teams need players and it's generally better to have some younger guys with some chance of surprising and becoming NHLers. I agree his odds of being an impact NHLer are rather slim, but they are still better than your typical AHL journeyman that would take the contract spot otherwise. And he's shown he can play pretty well at the pro level in Europe, so I think he'd make a pretty solid AHLer.He is small and not a great skater from what I remember.
