Dufour needs to keep this up. Love this production but he was nearly an overager in the Q and he did go silent in the playoffs.

Then thats fair. I know there are islanders fans who don't think thats good and we shouldn't put any stock into Dufour (looking at you Botta), but this is still massive for a team who has a really lacking prospect pool. My hope is that we get to see Dufour in 2024 after a strong season in Bridgeport, assuming Thompson doesn't butcher him.I know you're fairly new around these parts, so I'll mention that we already discussed the use of the term "overager" in conjunction with Dufour in this thread and clearly had to get that piece of terminology out of this discussion.
People were regularly confusing it to mean that Dufour was DRAFTED as an overager.
Which obviously isn't the case.
I do know that you, and others before you, were using that term to point out that Dufour's considerable feats aren't coming as a first-year draft eligible, but rather as an older (and more experienced) player in his 4th year of QMJHL play, even if all previous seasons were cut short or hampered by a lack of playing time.
SIDENOTE:
Interestingly, of the top 15 scorers in the Q this year, only one is a first-year draft eligible.

He gets a mulligan. St.John is hosting the memorial cup."Dufour needs to keep this up. Love this production but he was nearly an overager in the Q and he did go silent in the playoffs."
Two goals and two assists in 5 games is disappearing in the playoffs? Remember, the team had no pressure on them because they are hosting the Memorial Cup and had an automatic bye to it!
It's weird how much talk there is about Dufour's age. When Barzal won his MVP in the WHL he was only a few months younger than Dufour, and I don't recall everyone calling him an overager or diminishing the accomplishment based on his age. While one cam argue the dub is a better league or that playoffs MVP is for more meaningful games, the age argument would still apply. While it certainly doesn't make Dufour a slam dunk as a future NHL star, I agree that it still should be viewed as an accomplishment due to more than mere age.I know you're fairly new around these parts, so I'll mention that we already discussed the use of the term "overager" in conjunction with Dufour in this thread and clearly had to get that piece of terminology out of this discussion.

If Dufour can become like Tuch or Clutterbuck, i would be happy. We will see how his game transitions to the pros still, of course.
Tuch and Clutterbuck are in completely different arenas. If Dufour can become like Tuch or Clutterbuck, i would be happy. We need late round picks to hit, and this guy is someone the isles need to develop
Dufour has a late Jan '02 birthday, so he's older / more developed for his draft year, thus being close to the overage birth year ('01), of which CHL teams are only allowed to have 3.I know you're fairly new around these parts, so I'll mention that we already discussed the use of the term "overager" in conjunction with Dufour in this thread and clearly had to get that piece of terminology out of this discussion.

His upside is probably Vatrano.

So it's fair to say that he's nearly an "overager" (i.e., one of the 3 20yo players CHL teams are allowed to have).
But for CHL overagers (20yo's) it's based on birth year. if you were born in '01, you were an overager this year and teams can only have 3 of them. None of what I'm talking about has anything to do with drafting. I'm talking strictly about the CHL overage player rule. And Dufour was 28 days from being an '01. So to say he's nearly an overager isn't stretch. The cut-off for each draft year is September 15th.
Late January is middle of the road for every draft group.
Neal I could see because of the similarity in size, Tuch is much more complete than I think Dufour is.Idk, his style reminds me of Tuch or Neal. Perhaps Vatrano's shot.
Why are we spending time on this? He's either going to make it or not . . .But for CHL overagers (20yo's) it's based on birth year. if you were born in '01, you were an overager this year and teams can only have 3 of them. Stylistically, I think maybe Pacioretty is a better comparison.Neal I could see because of the similarity in size, Tuch is much more complete than I think Dufour is.
He's still closer in age to the average 20 year old player than he is to the average overager, so I still don't see why it matters. Are we really going to act like a few months of age completely invalidates his performance this season?Dufour has a late Jan '02 birthday, so he's older / more developed for his draft year, thus being close to the overage birth year ('01), of which CHL teams are only allowed to have 3.

Dude, I don’t disagree. I was correcting someone who erroneously thought it had something to do with his draft eligibility. In CHL it’s birth year. All I was clearing up.He's still closer in age to the average 20 year old player than he is to the average overager, so I still don't see why it matters. I'd take another Pat Flatley! Dufour may actually be a better skater, though.I've mentioned Clutterbuck as a Dufour comparable previously. Going back a ways, I can see some Pat Flatley in him when I watch his highlights.
I just hope we can find a coach for them with a remarkable 3 year record of 62 wins in 159 AHL games.Depending on how this offseason goes, the Baby Islanders might be quite the draw with Dufour, Holmstrom, and Raty all in the lineup.
Maybe THAT'S the spot Barry is passing up 7 million dollar gigs for!I just hope we can find a coach for them with a remarkable 3 year record of 62 wins in 159 AHL games.
Oh wait, he’s already their coach.

I'm totally on board with Eetu "Brutus" Liukas.Europe: Eetu Liukas
