This is coming out of left field but I just wanted to be on record in stating that the "surprise" prospects in the system who I'm feeling are gonna make their way into the NHL one day are as follows:

North America: Arnaur Durandeau
Europe: Eetu Liukas
Eetu liukas plays very tough game, and I would really love him to be an islander in a few years. dude could be a very well needed jolt to our 4th line

From what I've read, Durandeau could be Cizikas' replacement down the line

Durandeau seemed to catch on in the 2nd half of the seasn for Bridgeport and he had an effective playoff. I hope he can make some noise in camp this fall.

Said it a bunch here. Loved Durandeau with the moose. High motor guy.

Finally got a chance to see Dufour on the televised memorial cup game and came away with the same feeling as I had with MDC, don’t see the wow factor , mind you it’s 1 game and he was drafted in the 5th round but he just looks slower and his edge work needs improvement if he is ever going to be a threat to make an NHL roster.

Liukas feels like a Komorov type of player. Guy who can play a 2way energetic game in the middle of the lineup. I’ll take that.

Sea dogs beat Bulldogs 5-3 in the first game of round robin in the memorial cup.

Dufour scored a goal.

Dufour Snipe in his second memorial cup game.

Scored against Cossa ( DET 1strd pick) who many see as the #1 Goalie prospect in the NHL.

Dufour has a much better release than MDC.

Dufour has better straight line speed and is 6'3" (Bellows is 6'0"). They are not comparable in my opinion.

Also I don't get the MDC talk, he was a 5th overall pick and Dufour was a 5th rounder...
type of play and goals. Dufour looks scrappier and can skate, so I think he can translate into an NHL player

Ok thanks, I have read some negative comments regarding Dufour’s skating. Hopefully that doesn’t hold him back like it has with MDC and Bellows.

Anders Lee has made a nice career skating like the Walrus in the GEICO commercial, I have seen nothing in Dufour that tells me he can't skate well enough. This site has about 92% half-empty types and 8% half-full. It's like we are happier if a player fails so we can all pat ourselves on the back about our foresight.

Lots of high scoring players didn't skate that well, heck we used to get on Pajama Boy for it. Iginla wasn't a great skater, purely north/south. Kerr was a pylon. Flatley lumbered all the time.

This stuff is way overblown. Can he pot goals in the NHL and play enough defense? That's all we should give a s**t about.

"Flatley lumbered all the time." Truer words were never spoken!

What will hold back Dufour in regards to his skating will be his edge work and first few strides.

Dal Colle's problem was that he really didn't develop any NHL quality skills or habits post draft.

He just kept trucking alone as a CHL point producer while never improving his skating/edgework. Offensively he wasn't able to develop any sort of arsenal, what I mean by that is that never saw Dal Colle crashing the net, getting tenacious on the forecheck and fights for pucks, or attempted to drive the net with a power move. He was strictly an elite opportunist in juniors, Matt Moulson-esque.

Spot on. I said it in the past, MDC reminds me of Steve Bernier.

Another guy who seemingly never developed his skills after being drafted and simply benefited from playing against kids early on.

Bernier was just lucky that he made it to the NHL prior to the shift to more speed and skating ability. But once the NHL made the switch, Bernier was relegated to the minors.

The fact that MDC played with Bernier in Bridgeport, and didn't refine his skills, especially his skating, edgework and release, is telling.
