This was a Barzal esque set up.

People are saying that was a slam dunk shot, but how many players would shoot that wide or right into the goalie? The pass was actually kind of at his skates and Dufour angled left and got low and sent a laser short side just inside the post and a foot off the ice where the goalie couldn't get to it. A perfect shot and not as easy as it looks.

I'll eat a little crow, very happily. I wasn't very high on him early this year (said he looked like a higher end Clutterbuck). I'll amend that and aim a bit higher now. ;)

I swear I was thinking the same thing. He’s little but he was all over the ice. Could ultimately end up in the ECHL but the kid was playing a great game and style
I didn't get to see the Memorial cup games, but what about Josh Lawrence? From all reports, he was the straw who stirred the drink all year long.

not for nothin but this kid has that smug look on his face that may annoy some teams. Which is a good thing. Him and Wally have that swagger. Can it translate to NHL goals? time wil tell LGI!
I can only imagine that he made that face before he tasted the barley-water err beer in his hand.

What other players on St John is draft eligible? In true Islanders fashion, I'm totally sure we'll draft one of his teammates. They always seem to do that.
In looking at their roster, I realize I coached one of those kids in little league baseball in 2014… small world.

Saint John Sea Dogs (champion)

William Dufour (New York Islanders): This Memorial Cup was practically Dufour’s coronation. Forget the four-goal game to send the Sea Dogs to the final, and the goals he scored in each of their first two games to put them in that position, and the goal he scored in the final to make it a goal in every game (as well as the primary assist he added for seven goals and eight points in four games). He just looks different. His skating has improved a ton this year. He’s never going to be the quickest through his first three strides but he looked almost light out there once he got moving. It’s night and day relative to where he was even at the beginning of this year. He was winning races up ice. He showed improved shiftiness and puck-carrying ability too. Then, there are the things that he has always had but he has elevated. How hard his shot is (wrister and one-timer. How strong he is (a force who was pushing through contact with ease and knocking guys over when he really leaned in). You name it.

Also Steve’s son:

Nathan Staios (free agent): Staios just has to get signed at this point. What a gamer. He has been playing through a litany of injuries since the OHL playoffs and there were times this week where he looked like he could hardly lift himself off the ice to keep going following blocked shots and checks from behind. Then he just kept making things happen. His decision-making is suspect at times (he needs to make better choices in tough spots under pressure but some of that comes with his desire to impact the game and be the guy). But he beats forecheckers off the point with little shifts and shakes and laterally in neutral ice (which drew a couple of penalties) with head fakes. I was impressed by how fast he was in straight lines too (he’s got some power now). His footwork adjusting in and out of slight cuts in control to handle the puck off of pressure ever so slightly really pops. It was just a gutsy performance.

I'd sign Staios just to have another right shot D in Bridgeport aside from Hutton next season (that isn't an AHL journeyman).
