Dont be. One of the best things about him is he understands at a young age that side of the game. He will struggle like any young forward but he’s ahead of the curve.

This is Trotz from training camp. Praised Raty and his IQ. We know how Trotz is with defense in young guys. Doesn’t see many “holes” in Ratys game. That’s huge.

“I’ve been extremely impressed with the player to this point,” Trotz said in September. “Quite mature, has lots of game, high hockey IQ. He reminds me of a Zach Parise-type of player. Got a really good motor, always around the net, very intelligent, wins his puck battles, good hands. What a great pick by our scouts. There’s certain kids you get excited with that show up at camp, but he has this hole and that hole. There’s not that many holes in (Räty’s) game. He’s pretty well-versed in that. We talk about who impresses you, what do you see, he’s made a really good impression to start.”

What I'm hearing is, trade Beauvillier for backend up, shift Bailey to Nelson's LW, slide Palmieri up to the top line, slide Wahlstrom up to the second line, and then re-sign Parise to be a mentor to Raty on the third line.

The bolded would be my hopefuls if we should end up in that 8-14 range.
Interesting. I always value your insight on prospects so I'm curious as to what you think of Lambert. His skill is evident, but everything I'm reading shows that he's not very engaged when the puck isn't on his stick.

Which is why I'm very high on Miroshnichenko. Booming shot, good size, good skater, high motor and compete level.

If a player who moved so dynamically didn't have questions, they wouldn't be available after the first couple picks. If they're in the position to, NYI absolutely cannot afford not drafting Nylander or Ehlers again.

While it’s true the opposition let him walk in unopposed, Wow what a snipe!
The goalie didn’t even flinch.

Clearly he has ability but he’s also over age player in a league where defense is optional. I’d say though for where they picked him he does seem to have potential to be a better player than you’d expect from someone in that draft slot.

6'3" - 205 - great size, turned 20 2 weeks ago

He pressures opponents, wins the puck, and then skates it up to the offensive zone to focus his attention on the goalie. When the puck touches his stick in the offensive zone, its next stop is the net and quite often the back of it. Dufour surprises goalies by aiming low. Plus, his blade remains closed until the moment of the release, hiding his intended placement. -EliteProspects 2020 NHL Draft Guide

Obviously, this goes back to Bantam, but I do find it interesting the growth in his stats from the first year in junior in 18-19. Every year was better. No backsliding. And forget this year, 20-21 was a terrific year itself.

I said it before, he's got a Jamie Benn-type skill level and he could be the biggest surprise we have had in many years.

Ranked #103 in his draft year here: William Dufour Scouting Report: 2020 NHL Draft #103 (lastwordonsports.com)

That writeup is astonishingly good.

or he could end up as an okay player akin to Nic Roy

The biggest thing with Dufour is he is one of those players that hasn't been challenged much at all in juniors. he is given a tremendous amount of time and space and his skating isn't explosive or incredibly agile. We have to see how he pans out in minor pros or in training camp vs men.

You're putting too much emphasis on this year in your judgment and if his hasn't been challenged much at all in juniors he MIGHT have something to do with it! Maybe he really is far ahead of his league as much as because of skill. If you didn't read the Draft Year scouting report I linked, then do so. It's an EYE OPENER.

Really liked Roy in the World Juniors and he's up to a 0.5 point per game this year with Vegas, an improvement every year he's been in the league. That would be acceptable too, but there's something there that could be special.

to me, as long as he can score, that's all i care about

Is Dufour legit? I know fans almost always overhype their own prospects, so trying to get a real sense of if he will be a legit NHLer for 5-10 years in like 2-3 seasons.

He’s legit in the sense that he has definitely NHL upside and potential . It will take patience and good development for him. He’s not what I would consider a blue chip prospect but he’s got really good size already and he has good skill. His shot is terrific but he scores in a variety of ways. His skating is a weakness for the the next level but it’s not something that can’t be improved. I think he’s the type of guy you sign and he plays 2-3 years in the AHL with a cup of coffee possibly here and there until hes hopefully eventually ready.

I don't know much about him, but seems to me he's like a better Otto Koivula.

koivula in the sense that they’re big and aren’t great skaters. I think Koivulas hands are better while Dufour has a superior shot.

Koivula also never played center until the isles converted him. He took to it well but that might have changed his career path and affected his development and future. I still think Koivula could be a bottom 6 nhler

at worst, dufour just ends up as an AHL player
