I think there is a chance for Isles to finish bottom 10. Why? They still have two of the toughest western swing road trips and a compact schedule with many back to back games and some of the best goalies to deal with on this road trip. They also still have quite a few games left against some of the toughest teams in Metro all fighting for a top divisional spot -Pens, Rags and Canes.

Isles has not been good road team and could not win at home against teams in the playoff position. Only Habs, Coyotes, Flyers, and Krakens are actually playing consistently worse. Flyers if some of their many injured players return to the line-up, they may play better later in the season.

Yes they have games in hand but the schedule will real hurt them. Realistically, this team can only win if they have everyone playing at their top level each shift, as they do not have a game breaker who can carry the team on his shoulder, it is hard to do that with the compact schedule they have left and the travel.

If they can finish a bottom 6, they will for sure pick up a very good player, and bottom 10 likely do too (if draft smart) and also give them a chance at lottery. However I do not want Isles ending up landing the first 2 lottery spot because then they have no shot at all to get the number 1 and 2 next year due to the new lottery pick rule. The top 2 picks next year will be future superstar so it may be better they end up picking number 3, 4 and 5.

They have to scout the entire top 1-20 draft eligible 2022 prospects and know their details inside out. Isles need to identify what kind of players they desperately lack in the line-up and go for it. Lou always have ways to get rid of undesired contracts and find more room to fit new players in the line-up. They have to find that player with combo of speed/size/Iq/hand-eye who thrives on winning and mature enough to deal with temporary set backs like minor injuries and able to play against tougher competition. Like I say, you can't find these kind of player via trade and UFA route is too competitive and costly. You DO NEED to find them in draft.

Skilled players like Barzal and scoring players. These two are needs for this islanders team. We're going to need wingers, specifically wingers that can put pucks in the net besides Wahlstrom. The good thing is that this draft has potential for said players. Ivan Miroshinny might as well be the best LW option this draft, which is a position of need given how badly we need a replacement for Bailey soon. We also can make an argument for another defenseman, but we really need bottom pairing guys. Isles shouldn't draft a defenseman unless we're going 2nd overall and Nemec is on the board

The kid has stepped up this year

i'm glad he's done that, since some people here feared we should've taken Dostal. Still can agree with that, but Skarek will be here soon as a backup in a few seasons.

Btw that comment asking to trade Varly because of this lone month is making me chuckle. Varly isn't getting traded until the offseason or stays for his final year of that contract

Räty with a goal and an assist today in a 1-2 road win. His goal was the decider 5 seconds before the final whistle. Jukurit are now 2nd in league standings.

I like that he lives in front of the crease for both points. Not flashy, but he's there. He's certainly doing well over in Jukerit

After acquiring Räty (among others), Jukurit have gone from being a bottom feeder to being the second best team in the league.

Good for Räty to step up and take his game to the next level. Seems to have been a much needed change of scenery for him.

Nothing wrong with that goal and I love seeing our prospects producing.

With that being said, picking up a loose puck in front of the net doesn’t excite me as much as an end to end rush or a goal like Byfield had against the Isles when the Kings came to town.

yet he has done that. Raty has just been pretty versatile so he fits a swiss army knife need. At best, he's a 2nd line center. Judging by the way he's bounced back, i feel confident that he can be a 2nd line center in the future as well. If not, he can go the Hintz path and play as a winger

At very least he has shown he is good prospect for a team that lacks that right now, size and skill he has and that’s needed here.

When Raty was traded to Jukurit, I thought I heard people say that was good because they were a lesser team which would give him more ice time? But now they're 2nd in the standings?

Makes sense why they didn't even budge out of Canada/USA that year outside of the 7th rounder, who literally doesn't exist i bet
There's been a marked shift since Klatt stepped down and Kautonen took charge. For years the Isles took almost exclusively NA players , but now the Scandinavian focus is stronger. Plenty of teams have had success with that but not the Islanders. I still doubt Holmstrom will ever be an NHLer and Raty comes with some question marks of his own, so in the end they will prove either to have outsmarted everyone else or they were wrong

Isles have been there for a few seasons however, while others have been going to scandanavia for years now. I think Holmstrom will be an NHL player next season, but he won't be a WOW kind of player. As for Raty? I think he'll be ready come 2024. All we can hope for is our team to unearth actual talented players more often

Raty is 2nd in U20 goals for the Liiga and Liukas is 7th.

Liukas already has NHL size and from what I read he plays a heavy NA style game, he may surprise some people in camp next season.

im assuming #1 is kemell, no?

also Liukas being a physical players brings me hope since he might be a really quick fix on the bottom 6, especially considering Clutterbuck needs a replacement

Kemell is the leader with 12. Clutterbuck needs a new deal, which is polarizing to me because he’s been the most effective player from the fourth line, but do they really wanna keep putting money into those guys as they get older and older?

Kemell is probably still dealing with his shoulder injury, but lets see what happens. Liiga season is wrapping up soon I believe.

If Raty can get to 30 points, successful season. He's been very productive so I have no doubts he'll reach that

The Isles need to unearth a gem. One thing is getting your 1st rounders right, but we could desperately need that player picked in the late rounds that proved an absolute steal. It's been long time since we did that, and for me that is the cruncher for the scouts and where they really make their living.
