I'm hoping it's the Canes' Aho and not ours? ;)
yes. in case you want some sort of proof, here's Aho's stats from 2015 to 2016

Raty might be far from what Aho is, but we all can dream right?

Point of the matter is that I can really see Aatu Raty being closer to someone like Roope Hintz (full swiss army driver of offense) rather than Sebastian Aho (literally 1st line center, borderline elite talent)

Some players to keep an eye on if we end up missing
-Filip Mesar
-Danila Yurov
-Ivan Miroshinshenko
-Brad Lambert
-Frank Nazar
if this team ends up missing, I wanna see them get the best OFFENSIVE players available. we need scoring wingers, but also another driver on offense. These guys I feel would help us the most.

Also weird but true, the isles have NEVER drafted a 1st round russian ever

No, but we traded a first rounder for one at the draft . . . that’s close enough

And I was there too . . .

I want Lambert. He’s been my guy. He and Raty would lead a nice young forward crop coming into the next wave.

Lambert or Miroshinshenko would be great, but I think that the Isles will likely draft 14-16 and none of these guys will be available.

Bob Mckenzie's recently released mid term rankings has Miroshnichenko at 6 and Lambert at 11 so we will see!!

Lambert is a lot like Barzal in skillset. We could use another injection of lightning in the lineup. Raty would be the safety blanket as Lambert races all over the ice.

Raty could just convert to wing and become akin to Roope Hintz where he just plays LW. Lambert also helps a ton because he's a playmaking center, and the isles need guys like that. I just hope the real brad lambert isn't bad like his Liiga numbers tell. Seriously he's a dud in that but world juniors he easily would've murdered for MVP

As much as I like Lambert, I'm reading that the reason why his draft stock has fallen is because there isn't a ton of maturity in his game. He's not very good without the puck, and kind of coasts along when things don't go his way. If this was based off skill alone, he'd be a top 3 pick, but his play without the puck is holding him back.

I love Miroshnichenko and if it were up to me, I'd take him in a heartbeat. He has all the tools that we're looking for.

Two red flags with him
1. He was "overweight" or something and didn't make the WJC team for Russia, one that only allowed KHL/MHL/VHL players
2. He's a russian: we NEVER have good luck with Russians, especially wingers.

I just think Lambert makes too much sense, given this teams history

I'm not concerned with that first part. It happens with 17-18 year olds. He'll be in the WJC next year.

In regards to the Russian factor, I think it's different for top prospects. Petrov had a personal issue with his mother which forced him to stay, and he was a 3rd rounder. Kabanov simply wasn't mature enough to play in this league, and even then was viewed as a risky pick in the 3rd round. However, I'd like to think Sorokin has worked out pretty well for us no?

Miroshnichenko has everything the Isles look for in a player. Based off draft write-ups, his compete level is always high, has a decent hockey sense, and a booming shot to come along with it.

that isn't wrong either. Isles need scoring, miro plays LW, and he does fit the criteria needed on a Trotz team. Issue is, he's stuck in Osmk for another two years. are you willing to wait that long for him?

also i do get why he's desired by you. I'm personally willing to cover every base needed

I’d be thrilled with either Lambert or Miroscnichenko. Either would be a steal. Both have excellent speed, elite talents overall.

lesser prospect on the board but Liukas could be a bottom 6 dude in the future.

I loved the pick. Some boards had him much higher than where we picked him. FC had him at 124, we got him at 157. In fact the whole 2021 draft was really good as far as NOT reaching, every player had higher rankings than where the Isles selected him. That’s the first draft I could remember that happening, for quite some time. I also like that the Isles are willing to go to Europe and Russia now, they weren’t too willing under Snow for the most part.

well we really haven't been to Russia in a while now (last pick was Ishakov), but we have been more willing to draft out of Sweden/Finland. Its why I expect Lambert so much. Mesar also should be on our watch. Isles need to get TALENT this draft. Im gonna drill this into everyones skull

The Isles head scout is Finnish and his Euro scouts clearly has the best of his ear. The picks in the past couple of drafts speak for themselves in that regard.

but Vellu is....mediocre still. How long has he been around? I really don't get why they would take Beau over Hintz or Aho in 2015 if Vellu was still on the staff, or was on the staff during that draft year

I'm thinking that in 2015 the draft may have been run by Trent Klatt and Snow primarily. I'm not sure though....
