In the current center market, Nelson is likely worth Laine and Gavrikov alone.

If only that happened . . . I'd be thrilled. Trotz would easily get the best out of Laine, he understands how not to embarrass a player publicly, unlike Torts, who reveled in the confrontation.

I don’t see Laine here, he is going to infuriate Trotz like he has other coaches.
Based on how we’ve seen his handling of Wahlstrom I tend to agree, but unlike Wahlstrom Laine actually has a track record of scoring goals unlike Wahlstrom does (yet at least).

I wonder what CBJ would want for him though, would something around Beauvillier and Dufour be of interest to them? Bailey for Crouse…

Think 1st, Wahlstrom, Beauvillier, Dufour, Salo for Fiala and Laine…okay I’ll turn off my console.

Lee-Nelson-Laine
Fiala-Barzal-Palmieri
Crouse-Pageau-Parise

Minnesota will find way to keep Fiala, i don’t see him being moved. I think Crouse would be excellent fit with Pageau and Palmieri, isles could also get someone in free agency that fits there also like Vatrano or Nino.

His season's not over yet though, right? I want to speculate about him getting some games in! ;)
I don’t know.

I look forward to their first prospects scrimmage this summer.

Edit: Dufour’s junior team’s schedule ends on May 1.

He still has 5 regular season games on his schedule, then they are qualified for the playoffs and St. John hosts the Memorial Cup this season.

And people were worried. I’ve actually spoken to his mother a few times. They’re really excited about him being with the islanders. As I understood this was never even a question if he he would be signed
Yeah I think it was posted here isles have been in constant contact with him and he spoke about playing in Bridgeport next year even though he hadn’t signed.

Who is Nicole Shirman? Is she anything more than a YouTube scout?

I follow her on Twitter. She can be a little much and joke around a lot but she 100% has sources somehow. She’s the reason I knew Raty was here days before it was reported anywhere else. She also had the first report on Sorokins status after he was hit in the head and she knew exactly when he was coming back.

She just follows prospects and hypes them; she does interviews with agents and coaches and writes for EyesonIsles
She’s not verified and she portrays herself as someone in the know (like so many other YouTube scouts). But before this year she just seemed to be a fan who had a family member in Eastern Europe.

Writes lefty, shoots righty.

However, since shooting "righty" really is "lefty", there's no discrepancy.

It always bothered me that my Brother Charlie Wrote with his right hand, threw a baseball with his right hand, and batted righty. But in hockey he shot lefty. I never understood it.

yeeesh, this kid looks like a science major. No disrespect ofcourse. Anyway, hope he puts the work in. The QMJHL was a piece a cake for him this year

He has a big man's frame, he just needs time in the gym, he's only 20. He's actually exactly the type of frame you want, kids that bulk up in their teens tend to have issues with injuries.

Absolutely correct, I see it a lot in lacrosse too. An absolute stud down here who lost his college career by putting too much muscle on, and already has a degenerating hip. WAY too much muscle-training at too early an age.

That's exactly the case with me. It's because lefty in hockey is really righty. It's the dominant hand on top.

It's nice to have the strong hand on top to play one-handed for poke checks or going wide around someone. However, the biggest benefit of having the strong hand on top is that the top hand is what generates power on a shot. That's my theory, anyway.

It’s so weird because my right is my dominant hand and if I try and shoot lefty I can’t aim the puck at all.

I've never ever ever understood this.

I can't play without my strong hand on the bottom. I generate all my power with it. All my sense of puchhandling control is allowed and controlled by that hand. The weaker hand is ideal for just "holding" the stick steady, both for shots and stickhandling.

For the kids we work with, we just give them sticks without curves and let them figure it out for themselves. I think everyone tends to find a more natural way of holding the stick.

On the other hand, I've worked with a ton of guys over time who just aren't good stickhandlers and passers and shooters. Their strong hand is on top. I tell them that my theory is that they were taught to have that hand there, whether it was natural for them or not. They're now used to it and it is engrained in their play, but they should have had that strong hand on the bottom the whole time.

I've never been able to do squat with my strong hand on the top.
