When you're on your ELC, you can play for all official affiliates in all phases, thus pre-season, regular season, and post-season.

What I don't know is at what point a year of that is burnt off.
I don’t remember if it was Pulock or Lee but I remember there being a kind of loophole that you can pretty much get 4 years out of the ELC?

@PWJunior might remember better than me.

Because of the age he signed his ELC he is eligible for 2 slides. A year is only "burned" if he plays more than 9 NHL games, so this year will slide even if he played out this season on the NHL roster.

Maybe we should send Barzal to play for Olli for a while....

Interesting how focused they are in him playing center when there is no spot to play center on this team currently. I wonder if Jokinen eventually wants to coach in North America.
Well, there's always a hockey trade to explore . . .

Nelson, Salo and Wahlstrom for Patrik Laine and Gavrikov?

Pageau at #2C and Raty at #3 to start, and hope Raty develops into the #2?

Not saying this is realistic, but that could be the thought process in making sure Raty is Center-ready.

If NYI went this route, Pageau would absolutely have to go, Nelson played like a high-end 2C (aruguably 1C) this season and Pageau looked like a replaceable 3C aside from the last 1-2 months.

Raty was used in all situations in Finland and would be a better suited behind Nelson and Barzal. Thinking COL, they are losing Kadri and could use a guy like Pageau to shore up down the middle.

Just my two cents.

Maybe Pageau + Salo for Girard if COL is happy with Byram’s health?

Lee-Nelson-Beauvillier
Parise-Barzal-Wahlstrom
Bailey-Raty-Palmieri
Martin-Cizikas-Clutterbuck

Pelech-Pulock
Chiarot/Kulak-Dobson
Girard-Mayfield

Other forward options I’m intrigured by are Fiala, Crouse, Marchment, Kessel, etc.

I don't understand the infatuation with Girard here. The guy had similar stats to a Leddy and is a +2 on a team that has outscored their opponents by 87 goals.

A 5'10" 170lb defender is going to have more difficulty in the Eastern conference than the Western.

Sure, Brock is having a great year, but you're getting Laine and Gavrikov potentially. That solves both issues of a scoring winger and a LH #2 with offensive skills.

When are we going to learn that a HOCKEY trade is not one-sided?

First off, I don't think Nelson gets Laine and Gavrikov, what would Columbus want to do with a 30 year old center and why are they trading Gavrikov in general? He's going to be a staple on the left side with Werenski for CBJ for a while.

Also, Girard was just an example. Lamoriello and Sakic have a trading history and COL is losing a center this offseason (Kadri) which is why I suggested that.

Trading Nelson signals you're rebuilding, he's only gotten better with age and is the team's most well-rounded forward. Better off keeping him around and having Raty try and emulate his game. Pageau fits the hockey trade criteria a lot more than Nelson IMO.

Pageau submits a 16 team NTC on 07/01/22 so he can be traded this offseason.

Just my bias here but I want center-man with size, JGP IMO wouldn't hold up as well as Brock over time.

Nelson’s also just a better player and more valuable to NYI’s aspirations. Not to say Pageau is a slouch, but I can definitely see Raty making him expendable in a hockey trade if it’s true that be was an all-situations center in Finland.

Why trade a center. Move Barzal to right wing. Nelson is not a great puck carrier. A Parise, Nelson, Barzy line would do well imo. I think those 2 guys have the hockey IQ to read Barzy to get open.

I think it would be a good line but it also reminds me of the time we had a top line of Nielsen - Tavares - Okposo and mish-mash middle six of whatever was left over. Had a lot of problems with secondary scoring back then.

I hear you but assuming Raty forces his way into the lineup that still leaves Raty, Pageau, Palmieri, Lee, Beau and Bailey for middle six roles. Even if Beau and Bailey get traded I would assume one is replaced with a forward.

Or just start Raty on wing like how many other C prospects break into the league on teams with center depth (unless Raty’s 200 ft. game is simply better than advertised).

I don’t see Laine here, he is going to infuriate Trotz like he has other coaches.

In watching Dufour’s 52, his shot is elite. He scores NHL goals, his wrister is powerful. Skating is above average, though his weakest component. Good hands. Hoping his offense will translate to the higher levels.

In the current center market, Nelson is likely worth Laine and Gavrikov alone.
