I understand Aatu Raty’s season is coming to an end this month. Should he then be assigned to Bridgeport or wait until next season?

I'm thinking much of that has to do with whether Team Finland wants him to be part of the team at the WC.

After winning gold at the OL games, it looks like Finland wants to give its regulars a break and bring in some fresh blood for the WC. Raty could be part of that in light of the season he's having.

Dufour is going to have a lot of our posters owing him a mea culpa
I don't know of anyone who's saying he's not going to make it. IMO it's more tempering expectations because of the drastic difference in level of competition. He's not going to be seeing those 30 foot uncontested wrist shots in the NHL. Having said that, he certainly has size and a great release and a seeming knack for being in scoring position. And that goal I commented on above was definitely an NHL goal. Obviously I'm rooting for the guy - just taking a developmental step at a time before I pencil him into the top 6.

If Dufour was a first round pick a lot of people would be singing different tunes. Hope we found a late round gem and its very possible we have.

Is "Hopeful and Cautiously Optimistic" not a good tune?

I sang similar tunes re: Anders Lee when he was tearing it up at ND his second year after being drafted, and re: MDC when he was almost a goal per game at Kingston his second year after being drafted. We can hope. We can have a good feeling. But we don't know.

Yeah it’s hope and for the spot he was picked he certainly at least looks like a better prospect than you’d expect from that spot for sure. Bridgeport will be good challenge for him next year for sure but at least he appears to be ready for it.

Amen! What a difference perception makes. We could have lucked into our own Jamie Benn (both are 5th round picks, have size and great hands and similar junior scoring patterns) and we're all trying to find what's wrong instead of feeling good about a potential grand slam draft steal.

At times we sound like a battered spouse on this board.

Did I miss a bunch of negative Dufour posts?

Yes, go back about 6 weeks

Over-ager . . . which he isn't

Can't skate well . . . which isn't true

Dominates because of his size . . .

Everything but 'you know what, we might have finally hit a home run here'

Here was his final draft write up (from thehockeywriters.com):
William Dufour (Ranked 69th NA)

You get noticed if you can score. You get noticed if your two-way game is strong. You especially get noticed if you can score and play a strong, two-way game. That’s what Dufour brings to the table. One moment, he’s in your face playing a physical game. The next he’s posting a 14-game point streak against you. He has the size at 6-foot-2 and approaching 200 pounds. After a trade to Drummondville, he finished the season at nearly a point per game. He will make someone very happy in the middle rounds.

He was drafted a lot lower than that . . . GOOD FOR US!

The Q has the stigma of being the weakest of the three Canadian junior leagues, but with mid-late round pickd like Dufour, it just makes sense to focus on the positives.

If he wasn't putting these kinds of numbers, wouldn't we be asking ourselves why the hell was this guy picked? Keyboard warriors love to play 'damned if you do, damned if you don't'. The guy is having success, it may or may not translate.

Granted, that draft was one of the weirdest of all time due to how it was impacted by the Corona stoppage and then took place in the fall, when some kids were already well into their D+1 seasons in Europe while others hadn't touched the ice since February or so.

We are likely going to continue to see a ton of hits and misses out of that draft across the league - and definitely so among Islander picks.

I STILL can't believe this team took Ljungkrantz with Chromiak, Farrell, Tullio, and Berard still on the board.
