I feel like a big bucket of cold water lately, but I feel like some of you all have not been paying attention to the last 4 years. Raty is not going to start with the Isles next year under any circumstances.

I don't know why anyone thinks they can predict the future with this kid. When is the last time NYI had a European prospect that perfomed this well in his D+1 year?

The only relevant comparison, I suppose, is LL's handling of Nylander in the year in which he became GM in Toronto. Tbh, I don't know all the details about that, but Nylander was clearly a flashier player (clearly more explosive than Raty), but a less mature one at the time. Moreover, it was a different situation with the Leafs that year.

Tbh if you want to find the closest comparison to Raty's game in the history of LL being GM, it'd probably be Travis Zajac who played 2 post-draft year in college, and then played in the NHL.

I mean Raty will get a look in camp I’m sure, they gave him long look this year. I could see it especially if he can play wing which is certainly a roster area isles will be trying to upgrade.

While we need to pump the brakes on Raty’s potential, why not spout some optimism during an otherwise dreadful year?

Raty will be the same age next year (20) that Barzal was when he had his first full season with the Isles. It was a pretty impressive breakout performance if you recall.

I'll be interested to see if they bring on Raty for a couple of games towards the end of this year, should Jukurit's season end early. If they're serious about selling, maybe they give him a shot?

I would say that this is probably unlikely, because not only has the team never really done anything like this in the Lou era, but also because I think it would burn off a year of his ELC.

Or maybe the 9-game viewing limit would still apply?

What will also be interesting to watch is if he is nominated for Finland's WC team. Word is, the gold medalists are going to take a bit of a different route for that tournament in light of their gold at the Olympics and the belief that this would be a prime year to test some new blood.

And just imagine, Raty is currently 17th overall in scoring and has been clipping at a PPG pace (with a +23) since joining Jukurit.

He is also a PPG player in Finlands highest professional league. He also has taken the team that traded for him from the gutter to 1st place while the team that traded him is headed in the opposite direction. Hes the best prospect weve had since Barzal.

And this has to count for something.

Here’s the list of Isles’ prospects that Trotz has consistently praised over the last few years.

Raty and…..

Oh yeah, nobody.

over-ager or not. he has size and clearly has a scoring touch. worth developing. maybe we have something here.

Duff/Duffy with a 4 bomb. I’m rooting for this kid.

Alex Burrows was known as an overage player scoring in his overage year. Trying to recall others. Looked it up and he had 35 also in 60+ games. Dufour is going to pass him with authority. Cautiously optimistic.

My guess is that his size and strength will translate somewhat to the NHL, hopefully sooner rather tahn later.

didn't burrows learn to skate in his teens, or am i remembering this incorrectly?

While I am not banking on it, I really hope Raty's ceiling is much higher than what Zajac became.

I understand Aatu Raty’s season is coming to an end this month. Should he then be assigned to Bridgeport or wait until next season?

Definitely Bridgeport

If he can adapt rapidly to North America it's just another indication that his preseason success was not a fluke, and he could be ready earlier rather than later. To Trotz, trust in a youngster is how they play defensively, not their age.

What a benefit if he is in the NHL by midseason in 22-23.

Bellows - Barzal - Wahlstrom
Lee - Nelson - Raty (bye bye Josh!)
Parise - Pageau - Beau
Johnston - Cizikas - Holmstrom

I can dream, can't I?
