it pretty much just feels like Raty and Dufour. Holmstrom maybe, rest are meh.

Skarek might become a backup and I can see Liukas being a journeyman bottom sixer, but yeah other than that there’s no optimism for anyone else.

Cameron Berg is intriguing too- not much else there.

Trade away picks for guys like Pageau and Palms will do that. Seriously I hate how we end up in this conundrum of "Oh we traded picks to go deeper" yet never won. The past two seasons are going to sit in my stomach forever in a bad way.

Sometimes you have to push your chips into the middle. It's okay, picks replenish themselves.

Let me explain something - the back to back conference finals the last two seasons and this Trotz era is the next best thing in this franchises history since the cup days.

That is far more important than f***ing Ridley Grieg or whatever scrub the Devils picked last draft.

for some of us we are over the prospect hugging and the love affair with potential draft targets most of us have never seen play - give me Connor Garland, Alexi Romanov, Jordan Kyrou NHL players.

Lou went for it two years in a row and he was right to do it, when we criticized him in year one when he sat on his hands at deadline when we needed scoring help.

You are new here and I like the enthusiasm, but some of your posts fluctuate from hot takes to trolling

You think I don't know that? I'm glad we made it far, but a cup would've been even better. The problem now is that the players we traded for (Pageau, Palmieri) aren't producing as much as they should. I have an issue with that, but also our poor scouting

If you wanna call my takes "trolling", I suppose I should leave this echo chamber simply because it's a different islander fan opinion, that it isn't the narcissism from Daggers posts, or me not grovelling at Lou for every move he makes. I will admit he is right on some deals, but sometimes, he is off. but this conversation is not related to our prospects at all. This is something else.

Many of us have been through more than one failed re-build. And yes, the last two years have been the best experience for long-term fans since the Cup years. But, and it seems there's always a but, this team is not repeating. So, what's to be done? Well, since there is practically no other way to acquire elite talent than through the draft, trading away first-round picks are removing the only way to get elite talent. Now if your team is a Cup contender, then obtaining that final piece IMHO is acceptable. The last two deals I feel were not.

If the Isles are forced to take a step back this year, then let's hope whoever they draft will help fill the void of skill, and speed this team so desperately needs. I hope that our award-winning GM will not repeat the mistakes of the last two years and trade the first of a 30-year-old bit player.

Listen man we have had plenty of posters come through here and try this bit and it gets old quick.

Lennox has better numbers than Saginaw’s other goalie(besides the W-L column.)

Lennox: 22 gp 3.25 gaa 88.5 sv%
Oke: 22 gp 4.37 gaa 85.9 sv%

Yea Saginaw is a really bad team, goalie scouts appear mixed on him overall, he has great size but his tracking of pucks can be an issue. Not quite sure what we have here yet as goalie stats tend to be a product of the team in front of him (usually). Want to see if he still has warts with a better team in front of him.

Dinner table discussion. What do you guys think of the Isles scouting under Vellu Kautonen and Trent Klatt?

Just looking up their history. Feel free to chime in if this is correct or not.
Klatt joined the Islanders in September 2010 following the exit of scout Ryan Jankowski. Under Klatt's supervision, the Islanders have selected Ryan Strome, Scott Mayfield, Griffin Reinhart, Ryan Pulock, Michael Dal Colle and Joshua Ho-Sang among others since 2011.

Vellu Kautonen became the Director of Scouting the Isles in August 2015. Here is his record. Still too early to tell for some draft crops. A mixed bag to me other than the obvious picks. Give him credit for Raty and Dobson, though these may have been obvious picks. Wally was picked near where he was expected to go. Fair to critique picking Holmstrom over McMichael and Tomasino at this point. Though hopefully this will change next year. Wilde and Iskhakov looking like maybes right now. Unless Bellows becomes a full time NHL'er top 9 fwd , there may be no player from the 2016 draft as an impact Islander from this crop. This is unforgivable when a draft should yield at minimum 2 NHL players per draft IMO. I think there is a right to be concerned about this scouting staff with this mixed bag of results if you are an Isles fan.

It's a mixed bag overall and for the 2019+ drafts still a little too early however I don't see much if anything from the entire 2016 and 2017 draft classes, granted the 2016 class was mostly late picks. Mirageas was a big whiff he looks to be done with hockey entirely and was never impressive at any level.

I'm fairly excited about some of our later picks in the last two draft classes, we may have some players there in 2-3 years.

Imagine if the Holmstrom pick was Tomasino and the Ishakov pick was one of the C’s we talked about in the 2nd round - BO Groulx, David Gustafson, Akil Thomas or Jack Drury.

The prospect group would be much stronger.

Isles now have the 9th best odds to win the draft lottery. Are there any obscure Swedes that may be picked #1?

The freaking Devils and Rangers get so lucky with the lottery.....How about us for a change. I would love to get the 1st overall pick. I know it's a toss up between Wright and the Russian player. Sounds like either way you can't go wrong. But to me, the 1st pick in the 2023 draft would be the one I truly would want.

And don't mess it up by picking an obscure Swedish prospect on a reach. A Center Cooley or Wright.

May I ask what is so special about Dufour? He is older so why does it matter so much that he is top in scoring? It seems similar to that defenseman Brenden Kichton a while back.

Not much, which is why he fell to the 5th round. He was always dominating the weakest of the CHL leagues. Have to see how he handles the minor-pro game to get a sense of what role he can play.
