Islanders fire Lane Lambert, hire Patrick Roy as head coach

That’s probably next up for him. Kinda like Trotz.
Roy seems to have too much fire and passion to enjoy sitting up in the press box 82 games a season.

What has Roy been up to that past 8 years? Anything in the hockey world?
Coaching the Quebec Remparts the last five seasons and winning a Memorial Cup last season.

Even when they weren't super skilled the Islanders were a real pain in the butt to play against for many years. They seem to have lost some of that under Lambert. Even though they weren't doing horribly points-wise I get why Lou made this move. Perhaps the Isles will get a dead cat bounce and get back more identity under Roy.

The zebras cannot be too pleased with Roy back in the NHL. It was a hoot watching him get in the face of the refs when he was coaching the Avs.

Anyone who actually watched the Islanders knows that the teams wins came in spite of Lambert and many of their losses came because of his utter lack of system and discipline

I don’t know if Roy will work out, but I do know he will not put up with bullshit and will demand accountability, something his predecessor seemed incapable of doing

I think within a month, you will see Wahlstrom on the top line or on waivers.

Right move or not, he'll show them what the word intensity means.

Right move. Wrong move. Doesn't matter. Islanders needed something. They needed an attempted spark. If it doesn't work out, you're not losing anything, it wasn't working out to begin with. If it works out short term, so be it, enjoy the spark. That's how I view this move from them regardless if Roy is a fit or not.

He has done well as a coach with Quebec and Colorado did pretty well when he was there. He has coached in the NHL so he won't treat his players like teenagers. He didn't take the job just to be the coach. He will want to be the next GM.
Colorado finished bottom ten twice in three years with Roy as HC, that's pretty good in your opinion?

Hows about you wait a month or two to see how he does rather than judging the 2023-24 Islanders as the Avalanches from a decade ago.
Seems I struck a nerve, I haven't said anything about the Islanders. Just pointing out the fact Roy wasn't good in Colorado isn't a shot at the NYI. But the insecurity sure is telling.

The guy paid his dues and rode the bus for years in juniors, he deserves his shot unlike some other coaches like Marty St louis who got their job cause they were buddies with management.

Will it work who knows ? But the guy did his time
Garbage post. St Louis got the job because they thought he had what it takes to be a great coach (at least to work with prospects). And Roy deserves nothing. He could have coached for years and be a useless coach. See Roy Sommer, Lefebvre, Gallant, Hynes etc.
