Islanders fire Lane Lambert, hire Patrick Roy as head coach

Granola cereal guy would never come back to Long Island. He’s going to stay stuck in Toronto until he retires.

Better chance for a Cup tho. So who knows. Plus Tavares’ name is about to get run into the ground in Toronto.

Tough break for the Leafs tonight. Only 2 short of the required 6 goals needed to win Games in this League according to Keefe.

Isn't that what we thought about Babcock? A leopard doesn't change its spots.

In his case, Roy proved it to be true between his two stints in the QMJHL. He became a better and more structured coach. He also calmed down. Roy’s problem the first time wasn’t with his players unlike Babcock.

He’s the Leafs contract problems, let him stay there so they can deal with him. The Isles don’t want anything to do with him. That Willy Styles guy however would look great alongside Barzal and Horvat or Brock Nelson.

Pulock and Pelech were really masked by Trotz. I swear the play by them has just gone down a gutter without Barold in charge, especially Pelech
Pulock was NYI's best defensemen last playoffs...and Pelech looks like he's still finding his legs or not playing to get hurt.

I also think the Pelech-Pulock pairing is greater than the sum of it's parts.

Fail-- at worst

Overwork the goalie so he's too tired to perform up to par if they make the playoffs--at best

It certainly is and has been a system roster for several years now. Low on talent, high on effort. A new coach is not likely to change the result.

Posts like these are always so entertaining. Where can I get this level of false confidence in an unknown future?
He has done well as a coach with Quebec and Colorado did pretty well when he was there. He has coached in the NHL so he won't treat his players like teenagers. He didn't take the job just to be the coach. He will want to be the next GM.

Saint Patrick laying down the law less than 24hrs after being named coach!

Like when he fired Trotz only to hire poor man’s Trotz? That was a dumb move right from the start.

The fifth year of Trotz's contract was built into the first four. Trotz and LL both knew that Trotz would never coach as a lame duck again. Insisting it wasn't a mutual decision is ignorant or stupid. LL didn't say as much (he says nothing ever), but Trotz implied it. And the fact that Trotz never got back into coaching confirmed it. No fired coach ever had as much nice to say about his former boss/team than Trotz.

Unrelatedly, this is going to be fun, I think.

Was not expecting that, especially with Roy's previous relationship with his GM and the new GM been Lou...

Also he is now one of the owners of the Bordeaux Boxers in the top league in France?

They should have kept Trotz. He was dealt a bad hand with Covid, 13 game road trip to start season, injuries, etc. He masked their inadequacies and deserved to start last season with an even playing field. I don't buy most fan's tidy little narrative that "he didn't want to coach" or "he had personal issues"

Now it's 3 years removed from the 2 playoff . series vs Tampa and Roy will not make Matt Martin faster, Sebastion Aho smarter or give 75 percent of these guys a finishing touch around the net.

I agree a change needed to be made but some of these guys aren't the winners some NYI fans think and a couple of them will be deemed as "coach killers" if Roy doesn't get the desired results

At the altar. It's right in between "I do" and "I DID??"

Interested to see if he's found the line between passionate and crazy, will be entertaining in any case and happy to see him get another crack. A Lou/Roy marriage just feels like a power struggle waiting to happen though
