Islanders fire Lane Lambert, hire Patrick Roy as head coach

You should also take some time and review his transactions as co-GM in Colorado. I think it would be quite enlightening for you. I'm sure you'll be thrilled when the Islanders acquire players like Reto Berra and Brad Stuart for for premium prices.

If there’s one thing Lou isn’t doing, it’s co-GMing.

I have no idea what the setup for the Islanders will be, my post was in reply to the idea that Roy didn't have any input on the roster in Colorado and was blameless for its construction. He did and it sucked.

Lou has hired 19 coaches in his career. Seven are now in the top 30 all time in wins. 5 have won the Jack Adams. Three of his hires won the Cup in their first year with the team, another went to the finals.

Lou knows what he wants in a coach. If Roy didn't have the goods, Lou wouldn't even look his way. This is also, most likely, the last coach Lou will ever hire. He knows he either gets it right or he's gone.

Lou also knows that he has complete leverage over Roy.

Roy can take the Islanders only so far, that team has a lot of secondary scoring issues and goaltending keeps them afloat in most games. Stars easily outplayed the Islanders yesterday in a lot of that game and got by via Sokorin being very solid.

I agree, terrible comparison and a clear example of grasping at straws.
Cassidy and Roy
•both started off their NHL careers making play offs and going out in first round.
•Both went back to junior for extended period and won.
•Both gained more experience.
•Both came back to NHL.

Lou knows not to write a guy off just cause he pissed off a few Aves fans.

ha!

Islanders scoring has been fine this year.

Their lack of defensive structure and puck possession have been major issues.

Question : When the Bruins hired Cassidy with his winleess NHL record .....did you write him off too? I'm not writing Roy off.
Will enjoy watching him proves his detractors wrong.

Cheers
Once again, Patrick Roy isn't Bruce Caasidy and just because you can find a successful NHL coach that had a similar path doesn't guarantee the Islanders will have success with Roy.

David Quinn was a successful head coach at the NCAA level then went to the NHL and has been a complete disaster. Were you celebrating his impending greatness when he got a second chance with SJ after getting canned by the Rags? I mean he's a former successful junior coach with a failed tenure at the NHL level. Very similar to Roy. Or how about Dave Hakstol? Another successful juniors coach that has failed as an NHL head coach. You were planning the parade in Seattle, right?

Their lack of defensive structure and puck possession have been major isissues.
The Avs had horrid possession metrics all three years under Roy.

Scoring has been an issue tbh on the bottom 6. probably their biggest weakness is the lack of a reliable 3rd line scorer and all three of Martin-Casey-Clutterbuck being mediocre. MacLean has been solid so far. I like him as a cizikas replacement.

I stated I thought it was a good hiring by Lou.

You disagreed, pointed to his record in Colorada as lousey.

This seems a little abrupt and desperate.

Weren't they right in the thick of the wildcard race still?

Also, wasn't Roy an complete and absolute trainwreck last time he tried NHL coaching?

Whatever anyone thinks of Roy, the team was a mess under Lambert. Undisciplined, unstructured, inconsistent effort, blowing leads. He really needed to go.

Loser points kept them from completely falling out of it, but the on-ice performances have been largely unacceptable this year.

I am not downplaying Sorokin but even though he got 40 shots, the Stars goaltender made a lot of harder saves

I'm surprised it's taken this long for Roy to return what with the mediocre hires from old boys to guys totally out of their depth. Due to Roy's personality (I know Torts is wild with comments but he is successful) this will be his last chance to make a mark or he will be out of the league for good if it all goes awry I feel.

You have, constantly, implying Roy is the reincarnation of Bruce Cassidy.

Funny you now change subjects to suit your agenda when I provide you examples of other amateur coaches with similar backgrounds that flamed out as NHL coaches, though.

I used him an example when poster stated Roy was a bad hiring based on his early record in Colorado.
When my example was challenged I responded in turn.
That's called a conversation .
Try to keep up.

You changed the subject immediately after being given counter examples claiming you didn't say exactly what you did. It's called covering your ass.

Try to keep up.
