Company holiday party last night, so I only saw the highlights. Well, "highlights" but to me those goals were.... penalty shot, breakaway, and two deflections right from the top of the crease.

Will the real New York Rangers defense please stand up?

If anyone wants to recap the game, tell me how some players looked, I'd be eternally grateful.

Some players looked okay, most players looked like garbage. Fin.

You're welcome.

Boston had lost seasons in 05-06 and 06-07. Chiarelli ripped the roster apart. Made trades. Gorton started the rebuild with O'Connell. They traded Thornton and made Bergeron the centerpiece.

The rangers looked horrendous last night. Just mistake after mistake.

I totally agree with what most of the commentators were saying last night- far too many individual effort rigth now. The powerplay with 3 minutes left is a perfect example of lack of team play- puck goes in the corner and Stepan is there by himself surrounded by 3 islanders while Richards and Nash are no where to be found! Guys, this is basic hockey 101. When on the powerplay you must always out number the other team around the puck. Always, like never ever not have it happen but Nash was literally on the other side of the ice doing rink turns and Richards is standing behind the net. It's just not good enough and it is not even close.

Please stop with the absurd buy out Hank talk or trade him. It's the most ridiculous over reaction I've ever read on this board.

The team needs to get back to basics and work on out working the other team. Support the puck, make defense a priority and begin to claw out one game at a time.

Or just tank

His GAA is really subpar.

On the 4 he gave up last night. He's been giving up a lot of weak goals just about every game. Hard to say on the 1) Clutterbuck penalty shot. Usually when Henrik is playing well--it takes a great shot to beat him on a breakaway. 2) Rangers points after making a horrible play that led to the Clutterbuck goal on the first pwp do it again. Not much chance here. Grabner came in at full speed and beat Henrik to the corner.
3) the Strait goal. The Rangers had come back and gone ahead 3-2. This was a bad goal. Strait drove it through his glove from about 45 feet out. It looked as if Henrik had a real good look at it all the way.
4) Vanek's goal--not much chance here.

Lets say we draft #5. Any good wingers or centers that will still be available?

I don't know who is going to be top 5 in this draft.

I wouldn't be opposed to a winger or center though. As long as that player isn't a high risk pick.

Was that goal credited to Strait? It looked tipped to me. If it was a straight shot in, then yeah, Hank needs to have that one. You won't find me faulting the goalie for allowing a goal on a penalty shot, or a breakaway, or a deflection from the top of the crease. Those things occur from huge team breakdowns (or terrible calls, in the case of the McD play last night which led to the PS - so I hear, I haven't seen it).

This is a business. They just spent a billion dollars renovating the friggin place.

There is no way they are tanking. Dolan will never allow Sather to do it, and Sather knows he can squeak out a playoff berth and two or three home dates.

Forever screwed. The Cubs, people. The Cubs.

Who cares if the season is a lost season. What makes this season different than other years when they barely made the playoffs and lost in the first round? You prefer that charade? The Rangers aren't going anywhere with a new coach or some magical trade.

They ain't going anywhere with this loser either, pick your poison

Why are you a Ranger fan if you don't care if they win or not...

Because some fans prefer to look at the big picture. We want to win the ultimate game, not the meaningless ones in a lost season. Winning games now is going to hurt this team not help them.

Understood, II know we are going nowhere but at least go down swinging, same **** every game yoyo players, change lines, very stale, wrong man for the job, Sather goes 1st

In seasons past this game would've been a comfortable 3:1 win or even a shutout for Hank. If this season turns out this way it is on teams management to be able to respond and turn it into opportunity. Rangerboy mentioned Boston. Look at other teams in recent past that took advantage in similar situations like Sharks or Ducks. But with Sather it is probably not in the Rangers future.

Got to have guys you can go down swinging with. This team doesn't fight back. AV doesn't seem to have a clue if you ask me. It's like he thinks he's still in Vancouver. Even his teams there were tougher than the one we have here this year. Talent is not even close.

I was at the game last night:( they simply got out worked the isles looked hungry and out bustled us up and down the ice, the fourth line was the only one that seamed to be able to get and offensive pressure and that's because they busted their ass. Hank isn't invincible anymore it's as simple as that, they leave him out to dry time after time and he's just not making the saves he used too. Officiating in that game was absolutely horrendous on both ends that ******** penalty shot really killed them, but in the end they killed themselves by not coming out and matching the energy the isles had.

It seems like these " rivalry " don't mean a thing anymore. Sure, at times the games are used for hype by the league but the players would at least make an effort to buy into / get caught up in it, these guys show no signs of any of that. Yeah, you'll see more fights with them playing the Flyers but that's because of the other team. Blech.

IDK, that's bad business sense. A good business person would say, Well if we suck this year we'll get a great player who can help bring us to a championship and be a contender for 15 years. That will bring us more profit than a first round exit this year.

Does Dolan have good business sense? People always say the MSG teams can never really tank, yet they are semi-lousy a lot of the time.

How much does Dolan care about two home playoff games?

Anyway, this team won't even make the playoffs if it keeps up like this.

Even last year when we were mediocre we still had 5 playoff home games. I don't know what the math is but when you factor tickets, concessions, merch...that's probably a ton of cash. Like...at least $20M just in tickets. Unless my math is off which is very likely.

Right, but it's like saying, I can continue to go BAU and make $20M every year perpetually. Maybe some years I may make none and now and then maybe $40M or even $60M.

Or you can make none this year and next year and then make $40M perpetually with some years being $20M and some even $60M or $80M

The choice is clear.

merchandise? most people going to games are not buying merchandise at every game. The merchandise sales at games is a very insignificant portion of their game night revenues.

Playoff merch is not the same as regular season though, correct? Maybe 1/10 people buy a 20XX playoffs shirt, may not seem like a lot but it adds up.

Then you have the $8-$10 beers, and the burger and the fries, cotton candy, water, and this and that. How many people that go to a Ranger playoff game don't spend a dime outside of the ticket and transportation?

How much are playoff tickets, don't they start at like $80?

Edit: Average playoff prices for MSG this year: $442.94 for Round One. That's more than twice my estimate earlier.

I'm not justifying anything, I'm just saying this team may make more $ from even 2 playoff games than people realize. When was the last time this team got swept in the 1st round, anyway? Plus, having a non-playoff caliber team may affect regular season sales totals.

Hank does not look like himself, but how is that shot a given with one Ranger in the slot and an Islander just on top of him as the puck gets there? And he still almost had it, I thought it was harder than what was being made of it. That Islander was unchecked right infront of the net.
