Play off's this year is a distant dream..

What blows my mind is how many players we got on out going contracts yet few steps up..

Quick had a phenomenal regular season the year he won the cup, vezina runner up I believe. The otehr three statements I won't even touch, because they're opinions stated as facts. Also none of them have earned the cap hit that Hank will have.

That's the only great regular season that Quick has had to this point. In fact his save % has been below .915 every season except for two.

Lottery picks are generally the way you obtain franchise forwards in their prime.

Certainly not the only way. If you read the rest of my post you might find some examples. Also, what makes you think that high-end forwards contribute any more to a team's success than goaltending or defense? Hockey's a team sport, you need to build a quality team with quality up and down the lineup. IMO, which position is you're strongest shouldn't matter if you build every position to be strong in the way that best fits your teams identity.

And right now we have no identity. Hoping time will help. But after AV made that comment, not sure if that will happen anytime soon. It is a coach's job to form that identity based on the players he has. But if the roster is flawed and just a mumble jumble then you will never have one. It's looking more and more like that's what we have.

I agree completely. I just don't believe that it is Lundqvist's fault that this is the case.

Great example...how many championships did Ewing bring to NYC?

True but at least we were teased for many many years. And MJ being around those years didn't help either. Also, Crosby was not alone, he had malkin and others. I think malkin and Crosby were drafted back to back years.

This is my point.

Isles first regulation win since almost a week before Halloween.

It was so obvious that the Isles were going to get a regulation win tonight. And that Grabner would score his first goal since the first game of the season. Like clockwork, the Rangers never fail to disappoint.

I looked at their schedule before they went out West, and was like "****, they're totally gonna lose every game and then beat us right before X-mas".

Fack.

The Rangers gave up 20 shots tonight. Stop blaming the coach's system. Every single one of the Isles quality chances were the result of horrid giveaways leading to breakaways or on the PP.

The defense isnt great but turning the puck over at the blueline or inside your zone is not systemic. It's an individual failure.

It goes back to what some are saying -- Lundqvist hasnt made up for the teams shortcomings. The goals he is letting in has nothing to do with the coach.

Lundqvist has a .905 save percentage.

.905!!!!!!

Ryan Miller has a 2.83 GAA and a .922 SVPCT. That's the sign of a horrid team in front of a goalie who is doing his part.

It's not his fault that the team doesn't have an identity. I think the previous identity was jam, consistent good goaltending, shot blocking, and play close to the vest. He was a key part of the old identity. I think the hope was that he would be the old hank when we have a lead in the second or third, we win the game. But with the AV system, we don't go into the same shell as tort's and consequently can't hold leads.

I planned on sleeping until the second period, then wake up and see the last two.

Woke up. Checked the score. Saw where this was going. Went back to sleep.

Oh hank...I honestly give him a pass for two reasons: Firstly, every player has an off year. he's allowed one just like anyone. Lets hope the break coming up and the Olympics breathe some life back into him.

Secondly, lets be perfectly honest, our defense is ****ing atrocious. Why Av doesn't roll back to a zone system blows my mind.

With that said, I would honestly love it if they just tanked hard, got rid of dead weight and just built up again. We had a promising squad a couple of years ago that failed to produce what we were hoping. This squad sure as hell isn't going anywhere.

I'm not saying break it all to pieces because of overwhelming emotion, i'm saying it because outside of a few players, our contract situation, combined with our ability to compete is just a massive mess.

Totally agree. I think Lundqvist has been one of the many disappointments of this season. The only thing I've been arguing in this thread has been the investment in Lundqvist as the cornerstone of this team was absolutely a great decision, and that the construction of the team around him has been horrid due in no part to his stellar play or his contract.

Funny, isn't it?

Strome gets his first NHL point.

Just unbelievable how predictable **** like that is.

I'm really hoping AV will have a voice in this summer's signings. Both new faces and which one's to keep on board. If he can find the right players for his system, and Hank can bounce back, I think this team has a MUCH better season next year. Not that that helps ease the pain of this season :shakehead

Stockpiling picks and rebuilding with lottery drafts is a good theory but this franchise has never had success going that route. It's never been done. Neil Smith had back to back drafts with the 7th, 4th and 9th overall picks and all three were busts.

You win with goaltending. The Rangers duo of Vanbiesbrouck and Richter made the Rangers competitive and something to build around. Lundqvist the same.

Henrik is too old for a rebuild. Sather's plan has failed. He cant go for hired guns for a Cup run with a small window because he has 25 million tied up in three players -- and all three are locked up long term.

This is the team we'll see for the rest of the season, minus one or two minor moves. The Flyers were a 100-point team in 2006, failed miserably in 2007 and went to the SCF three seasons later.

At this point, just ride these guys out. Play the younger guys. Miller, Kreider, McIlrath, Fast, Moore and Stepan. Give them a chance to get experience win or lose. Draft a top-10 pick and start all over again.

2010 was a lost season for the Rangers. Very disappointing after a great start. Two years later they were in the ECF.
