Which player in our core has the compete level, aggression or grit as Ovie? Is it Nylander? Matthews? Or was Ovie “taught that” by a coach? If that’s the case, will Keefe teach that to them?
Also, I’m eager to understand which of our core will blossom into the physical players Crosby and Malkin are.
Ovie is a coaster. He doesnt go all out anymore, he hasn't for years now. He knows that if he wants to prolong his career and add some money making years to the end of career he has to slow it down.
example 1: Ovie plays the full 2mins of the PP. Obviously no player could skate at full tilt for 2 mins so what does he do? Stay at the opposing teams blue line.
example 2: Look at Ovie's heat chart. He scores most of his goals from one spot. He doesn't score in the gritty areas.
Ovie is smart give him credit. He has found his niche and is playing at a high level within it. But if Matthews did what Ovie does, this town would crucify him.
TOO many fans in this town say the Leafs have no grit or character or heart. thats because this town loves Domi, Tucker, Clark, Gilmour. Hated Sundin. This town cannot tell high end talent. they cant point it out. they dont know what it looks like. They dont know how it works.
When some is SOOOO good at something they make it look easy.
example. Usain Bolt set a world record that is almost impossible to beat and he did it laughing with his arms in the air. Made it look easy and effortless.
Leafs Nation has never seen true No 1 overall high end talent. So they think these guys are coasting on the ice and that they dont care.
