Is this leafs team likeable?

They were likable when they were motivated. Now that they got their randsom they don't care to grow.

Only player who does is Hyman. Babcock at least had guys working on areas to improve.

The team is likable, until you see the leaders of other NHL teams sign for much less without a hassle, buy in to team atmospheres, and than play hard while upping intensity in do or die games.

This team is void of a killer instinct mentality that's needed to win in professional sports. I guess i don't like them that much, but i wish they succeed? It's just sad to watch them wilt over in big games compared to other top players.

Some guys play hockey because they're good at it, other guys play hockey because it's their life.

Been saying this for awhile now, this team is a collection of gutless losers, led by that dweeb, who gets what he deserved by caving to these clowns. Their punishment last night was that they probably couldn’t play co-op mode in Fortnite

No other league displays such brazen contempt for their most profitable and largest franchise. You think Goodell would ever take a shot at the Cowboys like Bettman did to us? How about Silver with the Lakers or Knicks? Manfred with the Yankees? Not a chance.

I don’t know why I go so hard defending this team. Why should I care that Bettman takes shots at us in the media? Why should I defend this team to other fans? They’ve done nothing to deserve it. This team loves losing in new ways and their give a shit meter is clearly stuck in the negative.

This team is is filled with guys who don’t care, are greedy, aren’t willing to do what it takes to win, has a dismissive attitude towards the fans when we’re rightfully mad and concerned about their play, and are as fragile as a stack of cards.

No, this team isn’t likeable. For them to change my mind on that will take a lot more than a short spurt winning streak. This is the most gutless team this franchise has had.

At about 10mins left last night I was simply in awe at the lack of urgency, caring and pride of this team.

you’re professionals, try to act like it.

You mean the same way they lack any urgency on the PP? They literally act like it's not fair the other team is trying to stop them and are harassing them when they try the quadruple drop back pass. They just act like it's not fair....this is what I hate...

I also believe McFarland should be shot into the sun...he was supposed to 'game plan' differently for every opponent on the PP.
Do you see any of that? Geez Louise...I thought Jim Hiller was stale...he looks like Scotty Bowman compared to this idiot.

Hmmm I don’t know. This season is the least number of post i have ever had on this board since joining and the most negative I have ever been...

I've enjoyed some of my own farts more than what this team does most nights.

me too. Even after Taco Bell. I would have rather crapped myself than watch lastnights disaster. Imagine paying the ticket price and actually watching that game live.

Toronto Maple Leafs players seem to get too much of the celebrity treatment by the media and it puts a big target on their backs. It’s like every team that plays them wants to stick it to them a little harder. Especially considering their boy band core.

It has always been the case.
It is why Character/Heart/Toughness etc... is imperative in this City.
Conn Smythe knew that.
Wonder Boy has no clue.

Not long ago we had such a promising young core. When Dubas took over he had Matthews, Marner, Rielly, Nylander, Kadri, Andersen, Dermott, Kappy and Johnsson, and few bad contracts (outside Marleau). I was imaging us signing our young stars to reasonable 7-8 year deals, shoring up our D, filling out the roster with physical 2-way players, and generally being contenders for the next decade. We were rapidly improving, going from 69 points to 95 to 105. I loved that team, and the future seemed so bright, almost impossible to screw up.

Now though, all the young guns got paid crazy money while ALSO getting short term. Dubas surrounded them with all skill, no D/toughness. The culture on the team seems broken, terrible efforts way too often. They try hard to score, but can’t be bothered with defence or physicality, just a bunch of rich young stat chasers. Despite all our youth/talent, we declined from 2017/18 to 2018/19 (105 to 100 points), and then declined again this year - currently at a 94 point pace, and likely mentally ruined after that insanely awful game against Carolina. We took a highly promising young core and completely wasted it. Forget a decade of contending, I doubt we’re legit contenders even once with this core. Plus you know for a fact that Matthews/Nylander/Marner all bolt once their contracts expire, if they don’t demand trades before that.

So yeah, I liked them a lot a couple years ago, but I’m done with them now. Need to take a break from this team.

You want to see a likable team? Watch the Raptors. While the Leafs are getting beat by zamboni drivers, Raptors just beat a good team by 46 points. They're not the most skilled team on every night, but everyone on that team plays unselfish, and gives it their all defensively. They leave everything on the floor, and the coach supports them by never letting the refs get away with a bad call.

No excuses allowed on that side of the building. All heart every night. No nights off . That's why they hung a banner.

They're not likeable for me.
Most guys, specifically our younger players don't look as if they're giving their all every night.
I can understand losses and accept them, but if its apparent it doesn't make you pissed off about it and you have a ho-hum attitude that's where I draw the line and say get rid of them.

A sad but meaningful thing about the Raps - so many of them have gone through some pretty serious personal tragedy/hardship. FVV’s dad was murdered when he was young. Kawhi is no longer on the team, but his dad was also murdered. Lowry and Powell had deadbeat dads who left their moms to raise them alone. Siakam’s dad died in a car crash, OG’s dad died in his sleep. Chris Boucher had a tough home life and became homeless at 16 to get away from it.

The whole team has been through some shit, they don’t seem to take anything for granted. They always strike me as a team who know how hard life can be, know how lucky they are to be pro athletes today, and refuse to ever take a night off because of that. The Leafs feel like a bunch of soft spoiled brats in comparison.
