I mean the league is a hot mess for a thousand reasons, appealing to people who will never accept the sport is just one of them.I actually like it that way. People say we need to grow the game more than it is right this moment. I don't even think we need to go to 32 teams.
Also we have like quadruple your population, there's gonna be a disparity between who watches the other sports and why. And that is a whole different conversation than reffing which is what this thread is about
LA has the mass media celebrity appeal that other markets don’t have. They can draw in a lot of casuals. The LA sports scene hype helps them big time as well.Sure. But any team in the playoffs in a major metropolitan area will be selling out in the states
The local media reported the game tonight as being on Saturday. That's how little LA cares. lolI mean there is a crap ton of Americans in LA no?
When you have like 14 million people or whatever it is you just a small fraction to care. The local media reported the game tonight as being on Saturday. That's how little LA cares. lol
I just edited my previous reply to say I took a screen recording with my phone to slow the video down (which I’ve never done before) and HF isn’t accepting the format. Give me a sec to figure it out lol. There are a ton of them showing it does not touch but hey you have the one that does on your phone "it just doesn't work".
Vegas is part of the LA metro area. When you have like 14 million people or whatever it is you just a small fraction to care.

No doubt. My point still stands though that any US team in the playoffs will sellout their barn. Also I'm literally on the opposite side of the country to LA. VERY few casuals over here are attracted to the celebrity appeal of the LA market.LA has the mass media celebrity appeal that other markets don’t have. They can draw in a lot of casuals. The LA sports scene hype helps them big time as well.
And yet the average sports fan down south could tell you who the backup QB for the Boilermakers is long before they could tell you who McDavid was. It just doesn’t work in America.Highly disagree with that notion. All it takes is the right player(s) on the right team to grow a market. I was 10 years old in Ovie's rookie year. Watching the DC,Maryland,Virginia area fall in love with him and the Caps as they got better and better, was pretty damn cool. Even while being a Pens fan.
If it can happen in the Nation's capital, Tampa Florida, Dallas Texas, LA, St Louis Missouri ; All Cup winning teams with good fanbases, it can happy anywhere in the US. Except maybe Arizona lol
I am good friends with a retired NHL referee and he told me nothing is ever written or said officially but it is an elephant in the room as officials want to get second-round assignmentsNow, hear me out: I am NOT an Oilers fan and I am not talking about this game specifically.
It seems that more often than not, the Canadian teams get the shaft in the playoffs. I don't know what it is, but it seems in every key moment the Canadian team is the one who gets the critical penalty. Or has a controversial review go against them.
Is there a way we can track this? I am far from a fan of any Canadian team except the one I cheer for. But come on, at some point there has to be some sort of agenda set by the league right? Everyone can see it.
I bet if you checked the ratings for the 2016 playoffs they’d be only slightly worse than 2017s in Canada.I am good friends with a retired NHL referee and he told me nothing is ever written or said officially but it is an elephant in the room as officials want to get second-round assignments
The NHL WANTS Canadian teams to do well in the playoffs as the Canadian TV contract expires in 3 years and the NHL already knows it will be difficult to match what Rogers paid for 12 seasons starting in 2014-2015.
Canadian English TV lives or dies with Ontario and Rogers overpaid believing the Leafs would have several long playoff runs.
A cexit, if you will. Sexit. The Canadian teams should leave the NHL and form their own league next season to avoid all the biases.
You spelled 20 wrongThere is no bias. Canadian teams tend to fold under pressure. Toronto failing for 20 years is not because of the refs.
If the NHL favored US teams, Matthews and McDavid would not be playing in Canada
Ummm noNow, hear me out: I am NOT an Oilers fan and I am not talking about this game specifically.

Here you go. I had to crop the video much shorter than I’d like and convert to a gif, but you can still see the three things I mentioned. Feel free to show one of the many videos showing it “doesn’t touch”.There are a ton of them showing it does not touch but hey you have the one that does on your phone "it just doesn't work".
Here’s a gif. Much shorter than I wanted but the others were too big to upload. Anyways, even based off this I have no idea how you can seriously say it didn’t touch. No, there is an angle that shows it might have and there is another angle that shows it did not. The closer one shows it did not at any point hit his stick. You can't state causation until it actually happens due to different angles playing tricks on the eye (like the Flames goal supposedly crossing the line, it also never did). I am open for my mind to change though if you have a video showing it 100% did.

That shows nothing without seeing from the other side as well lolHere you go. I had to crop the video much shorter than I’d like and convert to a gif, but you can still see the three things I mentioned. Feel free to show one of the many videos showing it “doesn’t touch”.
So that rules out Oilers fans.No serious adult can say yes to this
