Hockey doesn't work in the US? The whole damn country? Idk who you're trying to fool. But you're factually wrong. The NHL has never been more popular in it's existence nor players salaries higher than they are now. Not to mention the worth of teams in either Canada or the US to be in the billions. Far more than they have ever been worth

Who tf are the boilermakers? I've been as far south as Alabama and as far north as Manhattan (not that far I know). Sure Football is number 1. Football is to the US as Hockey is to Canada. But I'd wager you've never been to more than a couple states, if any. You have no idea what you're talking about.

Tons of US sports fans know Sid, due to his marketing being much better during prime. As well as playing on a US team. And Olympic exposure. I can guarantee McDavid would be far more known in the US if he played for and American team as well as in the Olympics
The Boilermakers are Purdue University…conference rivals of the major D1 program located roughly 20 miles from your stated location…

They were all over sports news a month ago for their basketball team suffering the biggest or second biggest tournament upset of all time…

Which makes one assume you might not have the grasp of the U.S. sports landscape that you think you do…

The NHL as a whole only really works in pockets of this country, and even in those pockets there are plenty of sports fans that may have heard the name Sydney Crosby but could never identify what team he’s on…

Fans are biased. The nhl, to the point of making any teams path easier, is not. Sure they have markets that they’d like to gain success but they aren’t calling games in favour of any one team. Refs miss a lot of things on both sides.

Go into any teams gdt and it’s all the same… “I can’t believe that x team is getting away with so much while they call everything on us!!!!! The travesty!!!”

If literally every fan base thinks that, which they do, I’d say it’s more on the fans seeing what they want and ignoring what’s in their favour, no? All teams have blatant calls for and against them every game. Get over it or find another sport that doesn’t and good luck with that search.

Be better, take the games outcome away from the refs, that’s what good teams do and you can’t do it 4 times outta 7 have fun golfing.

Also. Every damn fanbase thinks the National broadcaster is biased against their team

“Joe buck hates my team!“

“National cbs/fox/nbc/ESPN broadcaster hates my team”!

Their proof? They are more “excited” when announcing a TD/Home run/goal when it involves the other team and not mine!

HEY YA KNOW IT'S THE PLAYOFFS YOU JUST GOTTA SUCK IT UP AND PLAY KIDDIES

NONE OF THIS WHINING BUSINESS, IF YOU CAN'T FIGHT THROUGH SOME BAD BOUNCES AND BAD CALLS YOU DON'T DESERVE TO WIN RIGHT GUYS?

DON'T WORRY EDMONTON/TORONTO WE'RE ALL PULLING FOR YOU OUT WEST!

Given how every series is complaining about the refs, any series who Wes McCauley has touched isn't happy etc.Can we all just agree that NHL refs are utter trash as a whole and that is a NHL refs thing not a bias for or against a certain team/country.

They deserve criticism for sure but can we get over conspiracy theories about bias, the NHL clearly needs to re-train or re-enforce the standard to which penalties are called. I can't even name 5 refs anymore, *old man voice* back in my day I used to know every refs name and knew how they'd call the game just hearing it before the game. Now outside a few names they could be reffing their first ever NHL game for all I know.

Refs in every damn sport are incompetent.

NCAA/NHL/MLB/NBA/Soccer etc

i doubt even robot refs will solve that because people will then complain that the robots were programmed to screw their team.

(And dont you dare argue with a robot official because thats grounds for being vaporized as stated in the robot rule book*.)

Is NHL officiating bad? Yes. Is NHL officiating biased? I don't think so. We mistake incompetence with malice.

Well, they love their Cali teams so I'm not sure if it's so much biased against Oilers as it is rigged towards LAK. Either way, they love their california teams.

The fact that people are still talking about it and making zoomed in frame by frame analyses from multiple angles of a puck being played with a high stick that had no impact on the goal is hilarious. Good job Oilers fans for showing that it's not just Toronto with the unhinged victim mentality, but instead seems to be larger issue with Canada in general.

Some of you are bug-eyed from how tight your tinfoil hats are wrapped around your head. Stay safe out there.

Balances out!!

Remember that time that controversial call went in favor of the Oilers?

Several backbreaking GWG aside, we should all agree it's bad for both sides.

This clearly balances out with all the controversial shit that goes in favor of the Oilers.

No Canadian team has won a cup since Bettman came into the league and will likely stay that way. It's all about ratings and Canadian viewership is less important. they know they got us. their goal is to expand the NHL into the US.

No. Fans of Canadian teams are just more obnoxious and will complain about the most minute of calls made against them on a more consistent basis so it appears that it happens a disproportionate amount to them compared to American teams.
if American fans liked hockey more it would be the same. the difference is your smaller group of fan do the same thing compared to our larger groups doing it.

NHL is the 32 franchises and their owners. They are not biased. Why would a Canadian owner allow bias against their team.

Refs are not biased. Refs make bad calls and leave things uncalled, but you have to understand the context. They are skating on the ice while we are comfortably on our sofas watching slo-mo replays in HD from huge screens. Of course we see the situations better after watching them replayed 30 times.

Add to this all that there's a basic understanding that players can bend the rules a bit. Crosschecking is a penalty but if you crosscheck just a bit it's ok because "let the players play". There has been few times when the league has tried to enforce some rules to be called as they are in the rulebook, and every times there's the complaint that there's too many penalties, refs are ruining the game. When it should be the players fault for not following the rules. High sticking calls are the exception here.

I'm not trying to say that refs are perfect, or there's nothing that could be improved in the game, but overall I'm really happy with how the games are refereed, given the circumstances.

It is an amazing coincidence how whenever a team loses it just so happens they also are on the bad side of the refs. It’s such a loser mentality and one of the ways to tell a loser franchise apart from one with a winner’s mentality

Americans that don't care about hockey (most of them) aren't tuning in because there's a large market in play. Most of LA doesn't watch the Kings.
There are more American hockey fans than Canada’s entire population.

as it should be, look at the differences between Canada and USA's populations
however little unfair to combine every fan between every team. still doesnt change the fact that most American's especially in the South dont care about hockey at all. it's all about NFL, NBA and MLB
