as it should be, look at the differences between Canada and USA's populations
however little unfair to combine every fan between every team. still doesnt change the fact that most American's especially in the South dont care about hockey at all. it's all about NFL, NBA and MLB
In the South, it’s more about colllege sports than professional sports.

Now, hear me out: I am NOT an Oilers fan and I am not talking about this game specifically.

It seems that more often than not, the Canadian teams get the shaft in the playoffs. I don't know what it is, but it seems in every key moment the Canadian team is the one who gets the critical penalty. Or has a controversial review go against them.

Is there a way we can track this? I am far from a fan of any Canadian team except the one I cheer for. But come on, at some point there has to be some sort of agenda set by the league right? Everyone can see it.
It's true, I've seen the Master Plan files, but I won't reveal how.

Now I have to change my identity again and I suggest you do the same.

I know fans in general are an emotional and unintelligent bunch but how do all these Oiler fans that believe there’s some NHL conspiracy against them, reason with the fact the NHL let McDavid go there? Not to mention the other 3 1sts. What possible scenario can they dream up to explain it? Everything is rigged except the draft lottery?😆 The league doesn’t want its best player to be showcased in the playoffs? It’s completely illogical..

Bias? Probably not,

the officials are told to 'manage' games though instead of refereeing them and that's a huge problem, because it causes a massive amount of inconsistency. Which game to game can look like there is a bias, it's also unprofessional, but I don't think the league really gives a shit about that.

Most will agree that refs try to avoid calling penalties late in the 3rd or in OT, if Iafallo's stick hadn't broken I don't think they call a penalty on RNH the stick breaking makes it automatic.

The reason you'll see Oiler fans saying it's rigged after this game will be because Danault had slashed McDavid in a similar way towards the end of the 3rd which wasn't called. Danault also should have been called for interference on McDavid using the Kostin penalty earlier in the game as a precedent for the way the game was going to be called. This 'missed' call was about 20 seconds before the RNH slashing penalty.

Not going to bother getting into the review, as that wasn't done by the refs it was by the situation room, and the only thing more unpredictable than a decision they make are ones the DOPS make.

I'd say that Tampa Bay Lightning are the most popular team in the Tampa Bay area, neck and neck with the Buccaneers. NFL is a ratings & money juggernaut and gets tons of coverage in mainstream sports media (ESPN/Networks/Syndicated Radio), and yet it's rare to see people repping the Bucs.

Driving around you see Bolts license plates, bumper stickers, flags on cars/yards, hockey nets in driveways, banners on buildings, murals, you name it. You can't go anywhere without seeing someone wearing a Lightning hat or shirt as well. It's the same no matter what time of the year as well.

Just because there are other major sports and teams to watch, doesn't mean that people don't care, they just have more than one interest.

Furthermore, there are lots of transplants here in the Tampa Bay area, so our population/fan pool is watered down by people from all over the country and world.

I watch Rugby Six Nations every time I can. I think they have perfected the video review: both the referee and the video guy have microphones and they broadcast that live. So when watching you can hear what exactly they are reviewing and why the result is what it is. Instead of just "call on the ice stands"

I think Rugby has the best officiating of all contact sports, there's so much other sports can take from it

No, there is an angle that shows it might have and there is another angle that shows it did not. The closer one shows it did not at any point hit his stick. You can't state causation until it actually happens due to different angles playing tricks on the eye (like the Flames goal supposedly crossing the line, it also never did). I am open for my mind to change though if you have a video showing it 100% did.

Canadian fans could all come together and boycott the 2024-25 season in protest if the NHL doesn’t get their officiating under control

The NHL and all the teams are privately owned companies and are allowed to make up their own rules.
Unlike at the Olympics, the NHL can follow their own rules and don‘t have to comply with the IIHF rules.
Therefore the “referees” are only game managers, who follow orders.

What you want to do, OP, is speak with the manager.

Why would NHL want no McDavid in the playoffs?

Sure let’s market the game without our best players
To be fair, we're talking about the NHL here. The league that sees nothing wrong with the playoff format, despite fans and players saying otherwise. The league that sees no issue with the board ads, despite the fans saying so. The same league that has numerous complaints about their officiating regular season and playoffs by all teams, but won't hold them accountable and see no issue. The same league that went with fanatics, an absolutely garbage company, but sees no issue.

If any league is going to self-sabotage themselves, it's the NHL.
